Welcome to Dave Rhodes' Hump Day - Wednesday, September 20, 2017. This column will appear here every Wednesday on TheLeatherJournal.com

Good news folks. Dave Rhodes' Hump Day is beginning to take root. I have Instant Messengered many of you and some are responding to the offer to include your events. This is really encouraging and if it succeeds we will have found the formula that ties the web site to the print version.

Say what? Folsom volunteer ad banned by Facebook
What initially began as attempt by the GLBT Historical Society to solicit volunteers for the upcoming 34th Annual Folsom Street Fair, the world's biggest leather fetish event, has turned into a big headache. This is not Facebook's first run-in wit hthe LGBT community. In 2014, the tech company demanded that drag queens use their legal names on their accounts. A huge push back led by San Francisco's Sister Roma, pressured Facebook enough that it reversed its policy. https://www.folsomstreetevents.org/

Found on HuffPost.com - This Honey Commercial Boldly Reimagines ‘The Three Bears’ As Gay
“The Three Bears,” which was produced by the London-based BMB Agency, allows Rowse Honey to follow in the footsteps of Campbell’s Soup, Chobani Yogurt and Hershey’s Kisses, all of which have produced inclusive campaigns that highlight queer people in recent years. Unlike those efforts, however, the series focuses on an oft-overlooked subset of the LGBTQ community. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/three-bears-rowse-honey-commercial_us_59f1ff66e4b03cd20b7fe96b?ncid=engmodushpmg00000003commercial_us_59f1ff66e4b03cd20b7fe96b?ncid=engmodushpmg00000003

How you can include your information on Dave Rhodes' Hump Day.

If you come up with a date and basic information on a new event, please send us the date and a short detail or two. This is designed for the web site and less so for print, so there is no 45 days-in-advance deadline. If your event is happening on November 15, make sure I have it by Monday afternoon, November 6.

Things to send:
1. Short article of about 75 words. So what if you are a few over. Just don't turn it into a Russian novel.

2. Photo or two. Landscape preferred. Must be a jpg. Taken with cellphone is fine. Please supply photo credit.

3. Link to a working site. Web site is preferential, Facebook still works.

4. Five "W's" - Who, what, when, why and where. All are important.

5. Please be concise. In news, verbosity is not a virtue; it is an editor's nightmare.

Style sheet stuff. When listing titleholders we use the title followed by the person's name - International Mr. Leather 1993 Henri ten Have, not Henri ten Have. One would say President Obama, not Obama, President and less punctuation.

We're getting more photos - join the club. Send yours to us. If a news item comes in which we feel should also be a larger article we will contact you about it. Send to me at Photos need to be jpg format.

Please share us on social media.

29 years ago, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, we first observed National Coming Out Day as a reminder that one of our most basic tools is the power of coming out. One out of every two Americans has someone close to them who is gay or lesbian. For transgender people, that number is only one in 10. https://www.hrc.org/resources/national-coming-out-day

Voices of the Quilt musical needs funding
By Race Bannon
This project is important to me. The Quilt is a vital part of our history and served as a mechanism of solace during my own grieving when my first partner died of AIDS. This project needs money to move forward and I hope many of my friends donate. Donations of any amount, small or large, will help. Your donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. Two good friends, Jörg Fockele and Adam Ouderkirk, are part of this project's core production team and they uphold the highest standards and are men of impeccable integrity. Voices of the Quilt, endorsed by AIDS Memorial Quilt co-founder Cleve Jones and by the NAMES Project, is the story of a community, ravaged by the HIV/AIDS crisis, that rose up and took unprecedented action in the fight for human rights, in part through the creation of what became the AIDS Memorial Quilt - nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, and estimated at 54 tons, the world's largest piece of folk art. The musical is a moving requiem to the fallen, a call to fight against a ravaging pandemic, and, above all, a celebration of life and the strength of community. Uplifting, joyous, and full of spirit, you will stomp your feet and sing out loud. Demos of song selections, performed by the composer, can be listened to on the donation page. https://www.generosity.com/community-fundraising/voices-of-the-quilt-workshopfundraising/voices-of-the-quilt-workshop

When the AIDS crisis hit in the 1980s, bathhouses were shut down and sex turned back into the backrooms of bars by the 1990s. Ed will also talk about the play "Forever Hard" which tells the story of what happened that tragic night in May 1977. ECMC’s Motorcycle Weekend

Empire City MC’s Memorial Day Motorcycle Weekend was simply amazing this May at The Ranch in New York State – everything from the ride up, the ride back, the fantastic meals served all weekend-long, the camaraderie of the guests – we couldn’t have had a better time. The day trips were fun and included: Cycle Stop, Extreme Biker Leather, Ground Rounds (prime beef hamburgers) at Bill Gray’s and Abbot's Frozen Custard. On Sunday afternoon, we had a pizza-baking contest. We were all exposed to craft beers, thanks to the folks from Three Rivers MC. There was even a very touching collaring ceremony on Friday night! Sunday, anti-road gremlin bells were presented to three new bikes/bikers: Jack, Erik and Earl.

Great Lakes Leather Alliance 2017

With a Mardi Gras theme Great Lakes Leather Alliance 2017 in Indianapolis, IN (September 28-October 1) was a weekend filled with parties, events and play that left all in attendance earning and tossing beads at one another and shouting, “Laissez les bon temps rouler!"
Spirits flowed in the hospitality suite, the Littles held a talent show; Pups held a meet and greet, a mosh pit, and hosted the cookout during the GLLA auction; and Bootblack Alley had a host of guest Bootblacks.

After hours parties included A Masked Affair, a masked lip sync and karaoke party; Friday night Ash Bash cigar, boots, and bourbon party; and a Saturday Victory disco party with Chicago’s DJ Milty that capped off the contest and left all the dancing Leatherfolk deliciously sweaty and ripe.
