Don studied at Cambridge and Oxford University in the United Kingdom, country of his birth. Professionally, Don was a concert organist and president of Pipe Organ Presentations. Much of Don's Leather community service was as producer of Fetish Balls in San Francisco in the 1980s and 1990s. He was a member of the California Eagles Motorcycle Club. For several years he was co-emcee of the Pantheon of Leather Awards. One proud moment in his early years was as the organist for The Beatles' Mr. Moonlight. Can A Jew Get Body Piercings?
From My Jewish Learning
While most contemporary Jewish authorities believe ear piercing is fine, the matter grows somewhat more complex when it comes to extensive piercings or piercing other body parts. Is piercing discussed in the Bible? Is body piercing permitted by Jewish law? Does body piercing preclude burial in a Jewish cemetery? These are not the Four Questions some of us are used to in the Passover Haggadah, but they are interesting to our community. https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/can-a-jew-get-body-piercings/

Jeffrey Payne, Former IML, Runs for Governor of Texas
Most candidates would shy away from having a portrait taken on a motorcycle wearing full formal biker Leather.

They would be afraid their constituents might take offense and be shocked by such a powerful and frankly sexual image. Not so for the late Governor Ann Richards who donned a kinky white fringed Leather outfit and posed astride a Harley Davidson for a Texas Monthly cover. It was quite a sensation and regarded as a great PR move on her part. That was in 1992 and people thought it was pretty cool back then. 15 True Stories and Insider Facts About BDSM Dungeons and Sex Parties
By Jacob Shelton of Ranker.com
People are weird about sex they don’t understand, which goes quadruple for the BDSM scene. Most people who get a glance at the scene use humor as a way to shield themselves from the uncomfortable feelings they have when seeing a woman hanging upside down by her vagina, or a 60-year-old guy in a latex baby costume. But don't hate - it could be your mom or grandfather. Just because a woman likes to hang from her vag doesn't mean she doesn't have feelings, and you're not hurting them... Most BDSM club stories begin the same way, with nervous anticipation, or jokes about spankings, but they diverge when the experiences begin. The truth of the matter is.... How you can include your information on Dave Rhodes' Hump Day. If you come up with a date and basic information on a new event, please send us the date and a short detail or two. This is designed for the web site and less so for print, so there is no 45 days-in-advance deadline. If your event is happening on November 15, make sure I have it by Monday afternoon, November 6.

Things to send:
1. Short article of about 75 words. So what if you are a few over. Just don't turn it into a Russian novel.

2. Photo or two. Landscape preferred. Must be a jpg. Taken with cellphone is fine. Please supply photo credit.

3. Link to a working site. Web site is preferential, Facebook still works.

4. Five "W's" - Who, what, when, why and where. All are important.

5. Please be concise. In news, verbosity is not a virtue; it is an editor's nightmare.

6. Style sheet stuff. When listing titleholders we use the title followed by the person's name - International Mr. Leather 1993 Henri ten Have, not Henri ten Have, International Mr. Leather 1993. One would say President Obama, not Obama, President and less punctuation.

We're getting more photos - join the club. Send yours to us. If a news item comes in which we feel should also be a larger article we will contact you about it. Send to me at Photos need to be jpg format.

Please share us on social media.

Our museum galleries serve to present educational and historical material that highlights the silent histories of marginalized and under-represented communities.

The Archives is located on Greenview Avenue in Chicago near Loyola University. The building houses the Teri Rose Library with holdings of over 3,000 books and 12,600 journals and periodicals, searchable by an online catalog, 1425 square feet archival storage space, and eight exhibit galleries. Among its ongoing endeavors are the Women’s Leather History Program, a gallery with rotating exhibits that celebrate contemporary artists who inspire dialogues related to Leather, kink, BDSM and fetish and a community space used for programming and special events. The LA&M is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a charity under the 501 c (3) provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. Philadelphia Leather Pride Night workerbees by Corey Brent

Philadelphia Leather Pride grows by 25 percent
By Cowboi Jen
Philadelphia Leather Pride Night along with staff, volunteers, emcee's Jim and Arne Granell-Bennett and auctioneer Jo Arnone donated $6,400 to charities. PLPN, with 160 attendees, took place September 30 at Voyeur Nightclub in Philadelphia, PA with a new format mixing the live auction with a throw back Leather party hosted by Ms Philadelphia Leather 2017 Heather Raquel and Ms NJ Leather 2017 Velvet Storm. The night started off with An Intimate Conversation with Sir Guy from New York City then onto the live charity auction with items ranging from jock straps, art work, clothes, toys, nights at a local BDSM B&B, and our big seller Zebriannas Crack Brownies. ASL Interpreters Kevin Lowerly and former Ms World Leather Michelle Jackson helped ensure Philadelphia Leather Pride Night is inclusive. Off-the-body auctions with Heather Raquel and 2017 Philadelphia Fetish Z Black Onyx were sponsored by Passional Boutique and Sexploratorium and were a huge hit along with go go dancers including Mr. NYC Eagle John John, raising money for their chosen charity of GALAE . Other charity partners were the Leather Archives and Museum, Philadelphia Aids Thrift and By The Grace of George. Next year will be Philadelphia Leather Pride Night's 10th Anniversary. http://www.plpn.org

Racism rears its ugly head in Leather community
We have received reports of a racist attack upon one past African American titleholder at a bar in Chicago the first full weekend of October. Social medaia was abuzz about it with no names given. The titleholder was called a "flying monkey" and was told that he did not fit the image of what Tom of Finland and Chuck Renslow had in mind when they formed IML. (Not sure Tom of Finland had input.) The best reaction to this most recent act of racism was a Facebook post by Joey Arteaga of Chicago. We publish this link stating it is the opinion of Joey Arteaga and not necessarily of The Leather Journal, but do know that we abhor racism and a lot of other isms out there. https://www.facebook.com/joee.arteaga?fref=ufi Note: There have been three black IMLs over the years and they are 1984 Ron Moore, 1991 Dee Canon and 2014 Ramien Pierre. What was the Martin Luther King thing about judging (one) by their character and not by the color of their skin? I knew Chuck Renslow and he never was guilty of racial discrimination. There should be no safe harbor for racism in the Leather community.

Everyone safe at DomCon: New Orleans
Mistress Cyan, coproducer of DomCon: los angeles told The Leather Journal by phone that everyone was safe at DomCon: New Orleans and that Hurricane Nate barely hit The Big Easy. It did "dramatically effect attendance" as people in the region applied "better safe than sorry" and stayed home. Cyan also noted that a 7 PM curfew on the night the storm hit was lifted at about 7:30 PM as it became clear that the Category One storm was hitting eastern Louisiana and Mississippi. The French quarter is in higher elevation and is thus less susceptible to flooding. More details on DomCon: New Orleans are available at http://www.DomConNewOrleans.com As of Tuesday morning, October 10, the site had nothing about the hurricane.

The fire that is most relevant to Saratoga and that we are keeping a close watch on is now known as the 'Mendocino Lake Complex Fire' (formerly the Redwood Complex Fire) and incorporates the Redwood Valley and Potter Valley fires." New antibody attacks 99-perecent of HIV strains
According to the BBC, Scientists have engineered an antibody that attacks 99-percent of HIV strains and can prevent infection in primates. It is built to attack three critical parts of the virus - making it harder for HIV to resist its effects. The work is a collaboration between the US National Institutes of Health and the pharmaceutical company Sanofi. The International AIDS Society said it was an "exciting breakthrough." Human trials will start in 2018 to see if it can prevent or treat infection. Our bodies struggle to fight HIV because of the virus' incredible ability to mutate and change its appearance. These varieties of HIV - or strains - in a single patient are comparable to those of influenza during a worldwide flu season. So the immune system finds itself in a fight against an insurmountable number of strains of HIV. Read more at http://www.bbc.com/news/health-41351159

National Coming Out Day is Sunday, October 8
29 years ago, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, we first observed National Coming Out Day as a reminder that one of our most basic tools is the power of coming out. One out of every two Americans has someone close to them who is gay or lesbian. For transgender people, that number is only one in 10. https://www.hrc.org/resources/national-coming-out-day

Voices of the Quilt musical needs funding
By Race Bannon
This project is important to me. The Quilt is a vital part of our history and served as a mechanism of solace during my own grieving when my first partner died of AIDS. This project needs money to move forward and I hope many of my friends donate. Donations of any amount, small or large, will help. Your donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. Two good friends, Jörg Fockele and Adam Ouderkirk, are part of this project's core production team and they uphold the highest standards and are men of impeccable integrity. Voices of the Quilt, endorsed by AIDS Memorial Quilt co-founder Cleve Jones and by the NAMES Project, is the story of a community, ravaged by the HIV/AIDS crisis, that rose up and took unprecedented action in the fight for human rights, in part through the creation of what became the AIDS Memorial Quilt - nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, and estimated at 54 tons, the world's largest piece of folk art. The musical is a moving requiem to the fallen, a call to fight against a ravaging pandemic, and, above all, a celebration of life and the strength of community. Uplifting, joyous, and full of spirit, you will stomp your feet and sing out loud. Demos of song selections, performed by the composer, can be listened to on the donation page. https://www.generosity.com/community-fundraising/voices-of-the-quilt-workshopfundraising/voices-of-the-quilt-workshop

Forever Hard: The Story of the Everhard Baths
Author, actor and activist Ed Sparan conducts a presentation about the Everhard Baths Fire, which killed nine gay men in New York City in 1977. During this pivotal time in gay history, just after the Stonewall Riots, the gay community came together to better establish cleaner and safer places for gay men. When the AIDS crisis hit in the 1980s, bathhouses were shut down and sex turned back into the backrooms of bars by the 1990s. Ed will also talk about the play "Forever Hard" which tells the story of what happened that tragic night in May 1977.
