Smokeout - 20th Anniversary
Smokeout celebrated its 20th Anniversary in Las Vegas the weekend of April 4-7 at the Alexis Park Resort and Villas. Most of the hotel was reserved for Smokeout with its cigar and pipe studs, Leatherman, bikers, bears and friends, from all over the world. Smokeout is a free-flowing weekend so everyone could enjoy Las Vegas the way they wanted. Maximus had their barber chair going, the Bullet Bar and SF Eagle hosted a play area that was busy, Rocky Mountain Rebellion supplied booze and lots of Rock and Roll music, Desert Brotherhood MC ride to Lake Mead, Cigar Poker party, bootblacks, the Chicago Hellfire Club had a Scotch and Cigar social. There were groups going to cigar shops, restaurants, shows and bars. The pool area was busy at almost all hours. Great job Bob, Shadow, Leather Uniform Club of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas boys of Leather.
Leather and Race
Avatar Club Los Angeles, ONYX SoCal/Southwest and Payasos presented Leather and Race on Sunday, April 7 at at MCC in the Valley in North Hollywood, CA. The dialogue addressed race relations within our scene and potential next steps for collective action. The panel discussion was videotaped and can be seen or heard on the link below. The open discussion was not recorded so that guests could feel free to express without the exposure of being recorded.

Rounding out multiple days of screenings and parties in its 16th annual appearance, organizers for CineKink NYC/2019 announced the recipients of awards in a range of categories during the film festival's closing celebration on Sunday, April 7. The first CineKink Artist Spotlight Award, designed to recognize outstanding artistry over a body of work, was given to Jennifer Lyon Bell. Audience Choice Awards went to The Artist & The Pervert (Beatrice Behn and René Gebhardt) for Best Documentary Feature, with Two in The Bush: A Love Story (Laura Madalinski) winning for Best Narrative Feature. ONE Archives at the USC Libraries - We Were Here
Marpa Franzoni's research and curatorial project We Were Here opened at ONE Archives for the 2019 Southland Honors Awards on March 23 and will continue until April 30. We Were Here hopes to shine a spotlight on women and gender non-conforming folks in the Leather community. It features important trailblazers, titleholders, contemporary artists and photographers. The exhibition contains excerpts from publications found in ONE Archives such as early editions of The Leather Journal and Venus Infers, rarely seen images from artist TOM of Finland, and photographs by Del LaGrace Volcano and Shilo McCabe. Colorado Leather Fest 2019
Colorado Leather Fest will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Denver-Thornton the weekend of May 3-5. Colorado Leather Fest does not focus on BDSM play skills and techniques and does not host a play party. Our event is centered on Leather/BDSM history and culture, a variety of relationship styles and the issues associated with them, and service skills found in Leather and M/s or D/s relationships and culture. Empire City - Eighth Annual Motorcycle Weekend
Empire City MC’s Eighth Annual Motorcycle Weekend in the Finger Lakes May 24-27. Admission is by motorcycle only. This event is filling up – please register soon or risk being left out. Mr. Austin Gear
Douglas Perkins took home the title of Mr. Austin Gear 2018 at the annual competition held November 3. Kaprese Andre, who later went on to win Mr. Texas Leather 2019, was named first runner-up. Douglas will represent through 2019 and will be competing at this year’s International Mr. Leather competition in Chicago. You can find him at monthly Gear Nights (first Saturday of the month at Iron Bear), or making special appearances performing around town with the United Court of Austin.

Leather Dog Pound was created to include a pup event in the Los Angeles Leather Pride festivities. This year LA Pup 2019 Tony Bark hosted a raffle with items donated by Oxballs. He also raffled off the very first Official Dog Pound harness by Gearworxxx. The Off Sunset Puppy Olympics OSPO are a series of athletic games for human pups and pets was thrown during the Off Sunset Festival. Los Angeles Puppy Pride and Los Angeles Pup Contest will be a three-day festival for human pups, handlers and the people that love them the weekend of November 9-11 at several venues.

Sirius Pup Aussy Austin Invasion Part II
The long-awaited return of Sirius Pup to Austin TX, will arrive April 19-20 with the presentation of a Sirius Pup Education Workshop. Empire City MC - 55th Anniversary Week-Long Road Trip
Every five years, Empire City MC celebrates one of their milestone anniversaries. On our 40th, we went to the Green Mountains and White Mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. On their 50th, they went to Deal’s Gap, NC to ride the Tail of the dragon. The Visibility Project

Phase one of The Visibility Project launched in 2017 on the principle that Diversity, Representation, Visibility and Inclusion must be perpetual efforts in our communities to ensure an equitable space for all. Beginning with a mission to provide visibility through display of identity flags of all in our communities launched the project. The Visibility Project has supplied flags to over 30 events in the past year with many more scheduled. Phase two (launching in 2019) seeks to provide scholarships to minority-identified Leatherfolk to be visible, representative and included in events otherwise beyond their reach so that they may share their knowledge and experiences and bring back those to their own home communities. 501c3 status is pending and a website will be launching soon.

Leather Uniform Club Las Vegas monthly events
The Leather Uniform Club Las Vegas was active at Smokeout last weekend. This active club holds their monthly meetings on the third Wednesday at MCC Las Vegas at 7 PM. The next dates are April 17 and May 15. Their popular first Thursday Fetish and Friendship Dinners are at La Cabana at 7 PM with the next on May 2; and Leather Church at Charlie's Bar on second Sundays at 4 PM with the next one on April 14. LUC of Las Vegas is a pansexual group with many LGBT folks involved.
