Avatar and Tom of Finland host Peter Fiske
Avatar Club Los Angeles and the Tom of Finland Foundation hosted a celebration of the new book My Leather Life: Early Years by Peter S. Fiske, narrated by Thomas V. Peterson on Sunday, August 18 at the Tom House in the Echo Park district of Los Angeles. One Avatar member noted there were enough Avatar club members there to form a quorum with the total attendance being around 60. At least 30 books were sold - each signed by Peter. Peter read from his memoir and gave a little talk from some things not in the book. The man knows how to entertain well. Both Tom of Finland heads Durk Dehner and Sharp were on hand.

Mr. San Francisco Leather and Bootblack
The Mr. San Francisco Leather and Bootblack 2020 contest was held at a variety of venues in San Francisco, CA the weekend of August 16-18 and was produced by the San Francisco Bay Area Leather Alliance. Trey Onyx was best among three men to win the Mr. San Francisco Leather 2020 title while Jessie was tops among two San Francisco Bootblack competitors. Of note, Mr. San Francisco Leather 2019 Jawn Marques finished first runner-up at International Mr. Leather in May. Also notable is the fact that Mr. San Francisco Leather 2019 was held in March and the 2000 version in August.

The winners of the Geoff Mains Non-Fiction Book Award are Janet M. Palm Springs Leather Pride - Hardon
Palm Springs Leather Pride is rapidly approaching. The theme is Hardon and the event is being produced by the Palm Springs Leather Order of the Desert October 24-27. Of course, the highlight of Palm Springs Leather Pride will be the Mr. Palm Springs Leather 2020 contest on Saturday night at the Palm Springs Air Museum. LA&M - New Archives Assistant
The LA&M welcomes Lorca Jolene to the staff as a part-time assistant archivist. Lorca earned their Masters in Library Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and spends their days as an archivist and their evenings as a circus artist. Lorca wrote their thesis on asexual BDSM practitioners in Chicago, which was published in a peer-reviewed journal. Their work at LA&M is focused on the CHC archival collections.
Eagle 562 Pup 2020
Pup Kumo became the first Eagle 562 Pup on Saturday night, August 17 at the Eagle 562 in Long Beach, CA. Three puppies vied for the title. There was a meet and greet/mosh on Friday night. Barking Billiards held a party on Thursday night and the traditional victory celebration was on Sunday afternoon.

Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District elects first board

I would like to offer congratulations to the members of the District's new board. The District is historic in it's creation and has tremendous potential to help Leather and LGBTQ culture flourish in this area. Over the coming months we will be announcing new committees and ways to get involved. Join a committee, volunteer to work our booth at Folsom, volunteer to work on an event, there will be lots of ways to contribute and help the District realize it's full potential as a force for good in the community. The new board consists of three-year terms - President Bob Goldfarb, Gayle Rubin and David Hyman; two-year terms - Bob Brown, Erik Will and York Ng; and one-year terms - Eric See, Stephan Francisco Ferris and Steve Gaynes. The board will meet soon to select officers.

Cincinnati Leather Weekend
Cincinnati Leather held their 8th Annual contest on August 17 at the Woodward Theater in Cincinnati, Ohio, with Pup Tugger as emcee. The winner of Cincinnati Leather 2019 is Logan Savage, our first nonbinary winner. They will be adopting the title of Mx Cincinnati Leather for their title year. Cincinnati Leather is a gender neutral contest. Winners serve their community for a year and can then petition the producers to be sponsored to the next level contest of their choice. Cincinnati Leather also announced that Pup Nova will be representing Cincinnati at IML 2020 due to his year of exemplary service for his community. The judges were Bamm-Bamm, Shan Wow, Abizzy Leathergirl, James Lee and Pup Nova as head judge.

Golden Eagle Leather Guard
Welcome to the new kid on the block, the Golden Eagle Leather Guard of the Inland Empire. This group of close to 10 members has a great back patch and a new attitude. We found them at the Peter Fiske Book Signing at the Tom of Finland House on Sunday afternoon, August 18. The Golden Eagle Leather Guard of The Inland Empire provides for the brotherhood and community needs of local, male-identified, Leatherfolk, kinksters and fetishists by providing a safe space for sexual exploration, education, visibility and advocacy. World Bear Weekend

World Bear Weekend, October 3-6 at the Clarion Cincinnati North in Cincinnati, OH, is held each fall to provide a unifying event for regional bear contests. Founded in 2018, our inaugural run was in Lexington, KY, but the event will move each year to allow us to reach the widest audience. Consisting of Mr. World Bear, Ms World Bear, and World Cub, the contest is the highlight of a weekend long event which includes Official Pool Parties with poolside, a buffet dinner, optional excursion to Kings Island and Haunt Night, educational workshops and on-site wine tasting, and of course a fabulous selection of vendors.

Mr. Tool Shed Leather
Jack Dyer is the new Mr. Tool Shed Leather and he will compete for Mr. Palm Springs Leather in October. Jack Dyer resides in Palm Springs and has been an active volunteer for the Tom of Finland foundation for many years working with many in and coming erotic artists both in residence and out. As Muse and as mentor in entrepreneurship and mentoring. He hosts a weekly Q&A on social media that addresses facts and fiction of the Fetish and porn communities and also addresses mental health issues in both. Jack was first runner-up for Mr. Precinct 2019.
Mr. Hunters Leather
The Mr. Hunters Leather 2020 contest was won by none other than Charlie Harding at Hunters in Palm Springs on August 15. There was a meet and greet at 6 PM. The new Mr. Hunters Leather will compete at Mr. Palm Springs Leather in October. Mr. Palm Springs Leather 2016 Christopher Durbin emceed and is seen with Harding in the photo above which was supplied by Tom Schneck.

GLUE Weekend 2019
GLUE Weekend features many outstanding events for the gay Leather and fetish communities October 11-13 Crowne Plaza River Oaks in Houston, TX. Iron Eagles 21st Anniversary - Fractured Fairy Tales
The Iron Eagles of Canton, OH will host their 21st Anniversary run with the theme, Fractured Fairy Tales the weekend of October 11-13. The club The purpose of the club is to maintain an organization to further the ideals of Leather brotherhood and friendship, and to promote social and charitable functions. Fireside Chats traveling to Australia
The Fireside Chats are overjoyed to announce an ambitious Chat tour down under! Mates Leather Weekend XXIII

Plans are underway for the 23rd Annual Mates Leather Weekend to be held in Provincetown, MA October 3-7. 500-600 people are expected to attend this four-day celebration of and for the Leather/Fetish community. Events include Boot Camp, Opening Reception, Uniforms and Cigars, Leather Market, First Mate Contest, Rubber Ball and the Infamous Fetish Party. Northeast Community Bootblack 2011 Jay Falcon will be on hand. MLW’s resident Buzz-cut barbers Danny Pantaleo and Billie Jean Beetam of SNIP Salon will be trimming at the Leather Market. Mates Leather Weekend has raised over $65,000 to date for the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod through event pass sales, raffle, and other donations. In addition, MLW holds a coat/clothes drive each year with donations going to Ruthie’s Boutique, a local non-profit thrift store. First Mate 2018 Dominic Donahue will host this year’s First Mate Contest. First Prize is $500 cash, a $100 gift card from Full Kit Gear and a two-night stay at Queen Vic Guest House. Buck’s Motorcycle Club - Santa Saturday
The 46th Annual Santa Saturday will be held again at the Paradise, in Asbury Park, NJ on November30. As in prior years, this year’s Santa Saturday will be a combination of an auction of donated items; entertainment by performers associated with the Bucks and the Paradise; service awards for worthy individuals; photos with the Bucks’ bear Santa Claus; a Leather shop; a 50-50 raffle; and refreshments and drinks. Santa Saturday originated in New Hope, Pennsylvania and is the the oldest and largest East Coast Leather charity event. The Buck’s Motorcycle Club has been hosting this charitable event for 40 years.
