Dave Rhodes' Hump Day December 23, 2021

By December 23, 2021

CLAW shines in California debut

CLAW 2021, held November 24-28 at the Westin Bonaventure in Down Town Los Angeles, has come and gone and plans for next year are already under way with a new name, The Leather Getaway. The huge space with events going on at the same time in the lower convention rooms and suites and halls on the top section of the world-class piece of architecture made it difficult for attendees to get an idea of just how many Leatherfolk were there.

CLAW producers said there were over 400 volunteers. There were activities on a floor with an outdoor pool and on the hotel rooftop. The Avatar play party was full most of the hours it was open. We talked with several vendors who reported their sales were good. There's more, including 50 photos, at

By Sam Cohen for EDGE Media Network

"Where are all the fist-fucking faggots around town?" Halsted, who died in 1989 at the age of 46, is the subject of an incredible new Blu-ray set from U.S. film distributor Altered Innocence and sister company of distributor Vinegar Syndrome, OCN Distribution....To read the rest, go to

Ghee Phua is Mr. SF Eagle Leather

Ghee Phua was named Mr. SF Eagle 2022 on Saturday, December 4. Ghee will compete at IML in May. He already has a strong presence in the San Francisco Bay Area Leather community.

The following was his speech, "Good afternoon everyone, My name is Ghee Phua. I am here today because of an article on a fetish website about a young Asian man who after winning the Mr. International Rubber title in 2016 received many racist comments and messages from other fetish and kinky people. More recently, even a local title holder has experienced racism and transphobia from within our community. I think it is unacceptable that this is happening. As members of the Leather and kinky family, we should know better. We know what it feels like to be marginalized and ostracized. I hope you agree with me that we need to welcome all people into our community."

Daddy Christmas Dazzles

By Rodney Burger

The ShipMates Club of Baltimore presented their Daddy Christmas fundraiser on Saturday, December 4 at the Baltimore Eagle. Founded in 1974, the ShipMates have been holding their annual holiday benefit on the first Saturday of December for decades. When last year’s event could not be held at the bar because of COVID-19 capacity restrictions, the club rescheduled for February 14, 2021 with hopes to tie the event into Valentine’s Day. When restrictions were still in place in February, Daddy Christmas 2020 was held virtually.

This year’s ShipMates’ Daddy Christmas found Leatherfolk in Santa hats and harnesses lined up at the door to get into a packed Baltimore Eagle. There was a silent auction, which included many Leather items from the estate of the late Mr. Club XS Leather 2009/2010 David Shover who passed in 2020. There was also music by Brandon Michaels, Jell-O shots, a raffle for a wagon of cheer, and performances by Bombalicious and others.

Porn stars Beaux Banks and Arad Winnin helped spread holiday cheer and the very nice Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather 2020-2021 David Spivey as Santa found many boys who wanted to be added to the naughty list. The upstairs dance floor and the recently-opened dance floor behind the code bar were both jumping all evening. Each year the Shipmates select a different charity as the Daddy Christmas recipient. Daddy Christmas 2021 raised over $2,000 to benefit Baltimore Safe Haven, a non profit organization providing opportunities for a higher quality of life for transgender people in Baltimore. In what has been another gloomy year, The ShipMates’ Daddy Christmas 2021 dazzled and helped many in the community get into the holiday spirit.

After a year hiatus, here is Dave Rhodes' Christmas and Hanukkah List which will be posted on or about December 23. I was not going to post it this year because I'm not sure what to say after all that has gone with the pandemic in the last two years. Then again, we need to love and laugh again - without anyone getting hurt.

A Blast From The Past - Texas Leather Pride 2002

NLA Austin hosted Texas Leather Pride in Austin, TX in May 2002. A few hundred attended play parties at The Ranch which was the stereotypical Texas warehouse bar in the country. While this was great, the boat ride out to Hippie Hollow on Travis Lake was a blast. It's sad that this event ended because it had the contest, keynote speaker and basic conference fare and a lot of Lone Star to spice it up.
