When I began attending local kinky event around 2006, I was often one of the only Black faces in the dungeon. I knew I wanted to learn about rope and kinky power dynamics because I read every book I could find. I was eager to gain real-world exposure to the Kink/BDSM/Leather community and naive about how to establish peer relationships. Looking back, I believe that many people in the kink communities are open-minded but their intentions doesn't always translate into action regarding how they handle cultural differences or racism. Avatar's 35th Anniversary Celebration and Exposition
Avatar Club Los Angeles celebrated its 35th Anniversary and an exhibition of erotic art at Highways Performance Space on February 17 which was hosted by International Mr. Leather 2017 Ralph Bruneau, featuring his live performances. The Palm Springs Leather Order of the Desert publicized the dates for Palm Springs Leather Pride: Renegade to be October 25-28. Just shy of Halloween which is the Wednesday immediately after. Palm Springs LGBT Pride is the following weekend. Mr. Missouri Leather is celebrating it’s 35th Anniversary and will be the weekend of February 23-25, with all events taking place in the JJ's Clubhouse Annex in St. Louis, MO. The weekend will kickoff with a meet and greet on Friday at 10 PM. The Titans of the Midwest will present Kink U which consists of three educational seminars and is open to the public. The Mr. Missouri Leather 2018 and Gateway Guy competition is on Saturday at 10 PM. The winner will compete at International Mr. Leather in Chicago in May. The weekend will conclude on Sunday morning with Victory Brunch at Hamburger Mary's. If you come up with a date and basic information on a new event, please send us the date and a short detail or two. This is designed for the web site and less so for print, so there is no 45 days-in-advance deadline. If your event is happening on November 15, make sure I have it by Monday afternoon, November 6.

Things to send:
1. Short article of about 75-90 words.

2. Photo or two. Landscape preferred. Must be a jpg. Taken with cellphone is fine. Please supply photo credit.

3. Link to a working site. Web site is preferential, Facebook still works.

4. Five "W's" - Who, what, when, why and where. All are important.

5. Please be concise. In news, verbosity is not a virtue; it is an editor's nightmare.
