Durk Dehner Receives Task Force Leather Leadership Award

The National LGBTQ Task Force presented its 10th Leather Leadership Award to Durk Dehner at the opening plenary of the organization's 30th Annual Creating Change Conference in Washington, DC on January 25. Durk co-founded the Tom of Finland Foundation in 1984 and was also first runner-up of the first IML competition in 1979. The award was presented by IML 1996 Joe Gallagher and Annina Aalto, Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of Finland. In accepting the award, Durk told the audience of over 2,000, mainly young people, "Be willing to try on different clothes of life. We are explorers and always remember that!"

Leather Heart Foundation launches General Assistance Applications
Over the last year the Leather Heart Foundation (LHF) has gone through structural changes and reorganization internally to bring all of the fetish communities LHF serves a strong foundation for those facing financial hardships. LHF is the only non-profit group of its kind - by the community, for the community. Recently, LHF opened applications to the Disaster Relief Fund for individuals affected by the devastating wildfires and hurricanes. Puppapalooza III

In it’s third year, Puppapalooza is a puppy play contest that is held at the Los Angeles Pony and Critter Club, in Granada Hills, CA. The winner of the 2018 Best in Show Award was Indyana Bones. There were seven events, including two races and a human-scaled agility course. This contest is an outdoor jungle gym of multiple physical challenges made for your rough and tumble type pups, but can be entered by any pup, and even includes a herding event, where pups try to corral a somewhat resistant "human sheep" through multiple gates. This contest was judged by International Geared Up Pup 2018 Ashtray Kain (Matthew Mullins), LA Pup 2018 Rush, Ms Oil Can Harry's Leather Polly. Other wins included, Best in Show (non-pup) kitten, Wyntyr. The winner of Best Handler in Show was Pup Rebel. The Audience Choice Award went to Titus, the Demon Dog. Mother and daughter hold same title - is this a first?

Well... this Mama had an excruciating night last night! It’s one thing for me to deal with nerves when I run for a title but, that’s nothing compared to the angst I felt last night watching my daughter do it. So now...for, I believe, the first time ever... a Mother and a Daughter that have both been/are Leather titleholders - holding the same title. I was Ms Texas Leather 2016 and last night my daughter, Heather Kelley stepped up as Ms Texas Leather 2018. I’m really proud of her and she’ll kick butt this year. The contest was held on Saturday night, January 27 at the Dallas Eagle.

How you can include your information on Dave Rhodes' Hump Day

If you come up with a date and basic information on a new event, please send us the date and a short detail or two. This is designed for the web site and less so for print, so there is no 45 days-in-advance deadline. If your event is happening on November 15, make sure I have it by Monday afternoon, November 6.

Things to send:
1. Short article of about 90 words. So what if you are a few over. Just don't turn it into a Russian novel.

2. Photo or two. Landscape preferred. Must be a jpg. Taken with cellphone is fine. Please supply photo credit.

3. Link to a working site. Web site is preferential, Facebook still works.

4. Five "W's" - Who, what, when, why and where. All are important.

5. Please be concise. In news, verbosity is not a virtue; it is an editor's nightmare.
