AIDS Life Cycle ride

Team Wombat finished the AIDS Life Cycle ride today, June 9 after 545 miles from Sand Francisco to Los Angeles. While not a Leather community event, Leather was very visible. Thank you to everyone that supported our efforts. A special thank you to the Bullet Bar for being a team sponsor.

Leather at DC Pride

The Centaur Motorcycle Club registered the Leather Contingent in the Washington, DC Pride Parade which was held on Saturday, June 9. Several hundred Leatherfolk and friends participated in the parade and/or in other DC Pride activities.

Ted Bishop Nieves is Named Mr. Fire Island Bear 2018

The fourth annual Fire Island Bear Weekend, presented by Shane Tate, took place from June 7 to 9. The highlight was the Mr. Fire Island Bear 2018 contest, at Cherry’s on the Bay, on June 9. Beating four other contestants, Ted Bishop Nieves AKA DJ Ted Bishop, was selected as the new Mr. Fire Island Bear. The runner-up was Rick Londano. Cherry Grove Homecoming Queen 2017 Ginger Snap and Mr. Fire Island Bear 2017 Danny Jimenez hosted the contest and JizzaBella was the DJ. Judges were Danny Jimenez, Mr. Fire Island Leather 2017 Sir Joseph, Mr. Eagle NYC Leather 2017 John-John Punki, Syluss of the Leather Man, who designed the sashes; and the Pines’ Gil Neary. Leatherman of Color 2018 Dax Volpe served as tallymaster.

ONYX was visible at Pantheon of Leather when it was held in Chicago, IL in February, 2002.

LA Pride - Erotic City

Los Angeles Pride took place June 9-10 in West Hollywood, CA and it certainly did not disappoint. There were booths from numerous groups and organizations and food trucks offering high quality gastronomic delights reflecting the multiplicity of cuisines Los Angeles is fortunate enough to encompass throughout the greater festival. Of particular interest for Leather and fetish aficionados was Erotic City, which was billed as an 'adult only' area of the Festival. A stage with demos every 30-60 minutes provided by Sanctuary LAX, Avatar Club Los Angeles, and others. There were the curious, the uninitiated, and the experienced all under one roof sharing and enjoying the erotic experience.. The diversity of those in attendance was a pleasure to witness and be a part of: from cis-males and females, transgender, gender-fluid, and gender non-binary folks, this Pride was certainly a celebration of every culture the LGBTQ community has to offer. The event was slightly smaller than in past years, however, after speaking with a member of the Christopher Street West Board, the reason was because West Hollywood Park is undergoing a lot of renovation and promises to be complete for the 50th anniversary of the CSW Pride Festival in two more year.

Albuquerque Leather Daddys celebrate Pride

The Albuquerque Leather Daddys are celebrating Pride Month with various events. The group held Leather Pride Gear Night at Sidewinders Bar, featuring a wet underwear contest on Saturday, June 2, raising $450 for charity with nine contestants who stripped to their undies to be wet down. The Leather Daddys participated in the Albuquerque Pride Parade on Saturday, June 9 with a float with New Mexico Leather Bear 2018 Timothy Hickle and New Mexico Leather 2018 cub Andy Walden-Montoya as well as
members of the Albuquerque Boys of Leathert. Music from the float poured forth causing many spectators to dance, while others bent over to be spanked. It was estimated that over 25,000 watched the parade, and the Leather Daddys got cheers along the entire four miles on Route 66.

Four California Contests in LA

The Southern California Master/slave, California Bootblack and Mr. and Ms California Leather contest are all on one weekend at the Airtel Hotel in Van Nuys, CA. Daddy Mauro Walden-Montoya honored

Daddy Mauro Walden-Montoya, a member of the Albuquerque Leather Daddys, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award on Saturday, June 2 by the United Court of the Sandias in Albuquerque, NM. UCS, a member of the International Court system. Daddy Mauro was recognized for his long work on HIV and LGBTQ civil rights issues as well as his community service for the LGBTQ, LatinX and general communities during his now 60 year lifespan. He won Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather in 1996, and also held the titles of Mr. Leather Puerto Rico and South Florida Leather Daddy. Walden-Montoya has served on 60-plus non-profit boards (and a few for-profit boards) during his lifetime. Since graduating from law school in 1984, Walden-Montoya has raised, either individually or in concert with various organizations, over $100,000 for charity. In 2014, Mauro Montoya married boy andy walden, and they combined their last names. They currently live in Albuquerque where they are both very active in the Leather and general communities.

Palm Springs Leather Pride

The Palm Springs Leather Order of the Desert publicized the dates for Palm Springs Leather Pride: Renegade to be October 25-28. Just shy of Halloween which is the Wednesday immediately after. Palm Springs LGBT Pride is the following weekend.
