Lords of Leather 39th annual Mardi Gras Ball

By Brock

The Mystic Krewe of Lords of Leather New Orleans held its 39th annual Mardi Gras Ball on Sunday February 27 at Alario Center in Westwego, LA. Themed “The Oddball,” it was planned and produced by Ball Captain Joey Landry. The tableau consisted of members exhibiting their ball-themed costumes to lights and music and some community groups performing acts of fire-swallowing, contortionist and trapeze routines.

Many costumes were underscored by members wearing Leather gear which goes back to the Krewe’s origin. Attended by approximately 700 guests and supporters wearing formal wear, Leather or a creative combination of both, the Krewe once again represented Gay Mardi Gras in its unmatched style.

During the Charity number Miss Louisiana Leatherette Stephanie Nicole le Dream (aka Jimmy Gale) performed in drag and raised more than $1,000 for House of Tulip, a local nonprofit supporting the trans and gender nonconforming community in Louisiana.

64TEN 21st Anniversary and street renaming

64TEN, located at 6410 North Clark Street, will celebrate its 21st Anniversary during IML Weekend and will celebrate the naming of a street after Ed Negron as part of it, May 25-30.

Ed Negron was such an inspiration to the 64TEN family and the community. His countless contributions to the LGBTQ+ community and his selfless and caring attitude proved how and why he touched so many people's lives.

Ed was the first person to be named Employee of the Year here at 64TEN and he won that coveted title several times. We will keep Ed's memory alive here at 64TEN and throughout the community as we have decided to name this award the Ed Negron 64TEN Employee of the Year Award in his honor.

We have been working together with Monica Rodriguez [Negron's sister] to put together the tribute and street naming that will be done in Ed's Honor. Thank you to the City of Chicago and Alderperson Andre Vasquez for allowing us to honor Ed in this way. Monica says, 'I am so glad that this is happening because my brother was all about his community. He has done so much to help others and it's great to know that he is being acknowledged for the great work he has done. Give this man his roses!

Zoning fix aims to clear last hurdle for SF gay bathhouses

By Matthew S. Bajko for the Bay Area Reporter

A final hurdle for reopening gay bathhouses in San Francisco should be removed by Pride month. The proposed zoning change will also allow adult sex venues to operate in neighborhoods historically home to LGBTQ districts.

A prohibition against such businesses having locked rooms, enacted in the 1980s during the height of the AIDS epidemic, was officially lifted in early 2021. Yet zoning restrictions remain in place preventing adult sex businesses from operating in most of the city.

The issue is why Eros, the sex club for queer and trans men, has yet to open in its new....

New research from Finland suggests interest in BDSM is surprisingly common

By Eric W. Dolan for PsyPost

New research suggests that interest in BDSM (bondage, domination, and sadomasochism) is fairly common in Finland. The findings have been published in The Journal of Sex Research.

BDSM has been considered deviant and pathological in the past, but attitudes towards the practices have shifted in recent times. Despite this change in attitudes, the prevalence of BDSM is still unknown in several European countries. The authors of the new study sought to explore the prevalence of BDSM interest and BDSM-related activities in a large, population-based sample of Finnish adults.

“I had previously done my bachelor’s thesis on porn addiction and internet porn, so I had some previous knowledge regarding sex research,” said study author Markus Paarnio, a doctoral researcher at....

Mr. Chicago Leather 2022 George White

By David Boyer

As for the big contest weekend, it was just that, BIG! All our out of town guests made it in and all our judges were able to do their duties with a choice of three hot Leathermen vying for the title.

International Mr. Leather 2003 John Pendal made it across the pond to emcee the weekend and Mr. Chicago Leather 2019 and IML 2019 Jack Thompson was on the judging panel with Joe ChicagoRubber, Sarah Sloane and Israel Wright joining him.

The kick off on Friday was great, aided by the great turn out for our WTNB Leather Social that happens the second Friday of each month. That Social has been packing in quite a crowd and it just made the night even wilder.

The contestants, Fen, Cerberus and George sold raffle tickets for the Travel Fund and did quite well.

Touché was honored by Trident International Windy City presenting their colors to the bar. Trident joins MAFIA, Chicago Hellfire Club, ONYX Midwest, BLUF/Chicago and Titans of the Midwest for making Touché their home bar in Chicago. Touché.

IMBB 30th Anniversary

International Mr. Leather Weekend 2022 will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of International Mr. Bootblack. It's come a long way, baby - since Harry Shattuck produced the first contest so many years ago. Having been selected solely by ballots cast by those who had their boots shined to what it is now with a small panel of judges and the ballots. If one goes out and spends thousands of dollars it makes sense to take care of it. Many of these bootblacks can take care of chaps, jackets, pants and other Leather and gear just as they can a pair of boots. We'll see who emerges at the top of the heap on Sunday night, May 29 in the Auditorium in Chicago, IL.

South Plains Leatherfest has a new owner

By Tomo, photo by Hromovy

At South Plains Leatherfest on March 13, Master Jim with slave marsha and Sir Cougar beside him, transferred ownership of South Plains Leatherfest and the International Master slave Contest to Tomo, presenting her with a South Plains Leatherfest Producer backpatch, only one of five in existence.

Tomo faced the audience and took a deep breath, taking it all in. She spoke from her heart and shared this:

“I commit to bring my passion and skills to continue to build on the work that Master Jim, slave marsha and Sir Cougar have done for decades. With my deep work ethic, I am ready to start working on SPLF and IM/s. I ask you to speak to me when you see things you would like changed and to call-in, not call-out. I will listen and I promise that it is certain that I will make decisions that not everyone agrees with. I ask for your help because while I am the sole producer of SPLF and IMs, I will not be the only mind and voice that contributes. I need everyone’s ideas, thoughts, and advice to be sure that this event reflects what we all want and need. I will lead with integrity and I will always make what I believe to be the strongest decision for the event and the title. I am excited to gather with you again next March at SPLF 2023."

Thank you to Master Jim, slave marsha and Sir Cougar for trusting me with your legacy. Thank you to everyone who has helped me to this point and all will be a part of the SPLF team in the future. I am excited and as you might have guessed, already at work on 2023!

Next year, March 9-12 to be exact, are the dates for the next South Plains Leatherfest.

Empire City MC’s 11th Annual Motorcycle Weekend

Last year, Empire City MC said in their monthly newsletter that, after 10 years of travelling to upstate New York for their Motorcycle Weekend they would be going to a new location as of 2022, and they're keeping that promise. Empire City MC’s 11th Annual Motorcycle Weekend will be held May 26-31.

Empire City MC and friends will be riding to a private venue just south of Pittsburgh, PA called The Farm, which is Mike N’s newest party place for bikers. This might sound familiar - because in 2020, Empire City MC did a test weekend there to see how the logistics would play out.

Because the trip is 365 miles (six hours, non-stop), just as with the test trip the Club did in 2020, they'll be stopping half-way for the night both on the way there and back. This will allow people close to Harrisburg to meet up with Empire City MC on Friday morning and join them for the last segment of the trip.

Empire City MC expects to have more information and hopefully a run application. Until then, save these dates, based on leaving from NYC on Thursday, leaving from Harrisburg on Friday, leave from Coal Centre for Harrisburg Monday, and depart Harrisburg for NYC on Tuesday morning.

A Blast From The Past - Mr. Los Angeles Leather 2000

This photo is from Mr. Los Angeles Leather 2000, held in March. Jeff Wacha was the winner and Doug Bedard was the runner-up. The idea of a Leather contest weekend in the Ciy of the Angels was the brainchild of Brent Sweer and William Schindler, the latter winning the title under a differet producer. 20 years later, Mr. Sister Leather 2020 Angel Rincon won the title. The 2000 show went over well and the os Angeles Leather Coalition grew and more events were added so that almost two weekends are filled with events as are the weekdays in between. Local bars and organizations run feeder contests. The Mr. LA Leather winner goes to compete at International Leather.

What are they doing tody? Brent Sweer was this year's judges coordinator and William was the producer of Mr. So Cal Leather which fielded a contest this year. Jeff Wacha lives in the Long Beach area and Doug Bedard passed on several years ago. The Los Angeles Leather Coalition is strong and growing. Photo by Dave Rhodes.
