By May 21, 2020

Oedipus MC Monthly Ride - Solvang Sausagefest

By Eric Gilfand

The Oedipus MC Monthly Ride will go to Solvang for Sausagefest on Sunday, May 31 at 10 AM – 2 PM. Oedipus has a long and proud tradition of encouraging guests to join them on their rides. Oedipus MC doesn’t want to decline any rider who chooses to attend, but they have certain minimum expectations that the club insists on – basically, a fully legal rider on a road-ready bike. Meet at Starbucks with a full tank of gas around 9:30 AM and ready to go, 561 New Los Angeles Avenue, Moorpark, CA 93021.

Leather Masters closing

By MarKus

After many years of working with Leather Masters in it's 31 years of operation, today, May 20, I have to make the announcement that we will be closing our doors for good. As many of you maybe aware we had just moved to our new location literally as the "shelter in place" orders were placed on Dallas, Texas. We kicked into high gear manufacturing face masks and getting them out to all those in need. With the majority of the proceeds going to help fund the supply of donations to our first responders, we were able to make a difference. I personally want to apologize to the Leather community, our customers, friends, and family alike for this loss. Dave created something that has been apart of most all our lives over the past 31 years. Not many, do not know the Leather Masters name. I wanted to do my part in keeping that tradition alive and bring it into the new future. With the current pandemic we are ALL facing, we have exhausted all of our resources in hopes of seeing an end to all this suffering the world is facing. Unfortunately, with numbers still on the rise, our children, family, and those of our employees, I have made the call to liquidate our inventory and move on to a new future for us all. With my deepest regrets, love to all our customers, family, and friends I have to say THANK YOU ALL! These past several years with Leather Masters have been ones that I will cherish for the rest of my days! We will be regrouping, once this has all settled, and directing our focus on House Of MarKus products and custom work. Please view the video announcement here

American Brotherhood Weekend cancelled

By Steven Carlisle, ABW owner and producer

It is with a heavy heart I am reaching out to you today. As things have unfolded, we are not going to be past this pandemic by August. Many of our family have lost their income and jobs. Others have lost family and friends. Consequently, I have decided to cancel the family reunion for 2020. We will be holding an online event in August. I have debated with myself, and others, if there should be a contest. Ultimately, I decided I would rather have a celebration; there will be no contest this year. Instead, Cody and Carrie, our current family, will continue to hold their titles until 2021 doing the things they wanted to accomplish before the pandemic started. I have reached out to everyone who has purchased a ticket to attend, compete, or sponsor the weekend to offer refunds. Please check the email you used when paying.

Fred Halsted at the ONE Archives

By Thor Stockman

The ONE Archives at USC in Los Angeles has hundreds of hours of audio and video recordings digitized and available for listening and watching. Many of them are recordings of public forums held by ONE, an early, pre-Stonewall homophile group, from the mid 50's through the late 80's. Two of these (from the early 70's!) are about the Leather community and SM, one of which is a talk with Leather/SM porn director Fred Halsted, who gave us LA PLAYS ITSELF and SEX GARAGE, both of which are in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. While the sound quality is poor (likely from a portable tape recorder), it's fascinating to hear about what Leather was like 45 years ago, and there is a wide-ranging Q&A and discussion with the audience. Halsted also started a Leather magazine, Package, and operated a sex club in the 70's. We lost him to AIDS in 1989.

Virtual CLAW II

Since Virtual CLAW I was a huge success, producers have decided to hold Virtual CLAW II May 30-31. Virtual CLAW II. The live version of CLAW 20 has been rescheduled to November 19-22 at the Westin Cleveland Downtown.

ONYX SoCal-Southwest - Leather Log-On

By Aric Wilson

ONYX SoCal-Southwest held its first virtual event, Leather Log-On, on April 26 in response to the California order which shuttered bars across the state, including ONYX' home bar, Eagle LA. While Safer-At-Home, ONYX had the pleasure of hosting Leather community members across the globe, many of which have supported our efforts over the years. As a result, ONYX raised and contributed $500 to the Eagle LA Staff Relief Fund, giving assistance to the bartenders, security teams and managers who back monthly Leather events. Our next event, Cyber Camp, is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, at 3 PM, PT.

Long Beach Virtual Pride held

On Sunday, May 17, which what would have been Long Beach Pride, Perverted Interracial Guys launched a virtual pride parade that was crowd sourced from videos submitted by members of the community. Titleholders from Long Beach, Los Angeles, and the West Coast recorded videos to represent the Fetish Contingent. The whole video was dedicated in memory to Garry Bowie, who had passed away the previous month from Coronavirus. Later in the day, PIGS hosted a Pride celebration on Zoom with Mr. Long Beach Leather 2019 Eric Crow. Follow @realpigs on Facebook or join the PIGS mailing list.

One Common Heartbeat, the Leather Pride Anthem

By Thor Stockman

Dave Rhodes, I was surprised that I could not find a full recording of its performance at YouTube or elsewhere on the internet. Here is a comprehensive history of its creation by Andrew Bootdog Johnson....In 1998, the Twentieth Anniversary of International Mr. Leather in Chicago witnessed the premiere performance of a new anthem for the Leather nation. Gary Aldrich is a singer and Leatherman whose operatic and concert career spans the nation. In 1999 he made debuts in two of the country's most famous concert halls: at Lincoln Center in New York and at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Singing with him at IML 1998 were co-lyricist Kevin Tyrrell and Joseph Ricci, Mr. Northeast Drummer 1994. Backing them up were members of the original performance ensemble (below) and the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus.

PBS Celebrates Pride Month with PRIDELAND, exploring LGBTQQ+ identity in the US South

PBS is celebrating LGTBQ+ Pride Month with the launch of PRIDELAND, a new one-hour special and short-form digital series following host and actor Dyllón Burnside (from FX’s “Pose”) on a journey across the South. The six-episode short-form series will launch on PBS Voices, a new documentary-focused YouTube Channel by PBS Digital Studios, beginning Tuesday, May 26. A one-hour companion special, also hosted by Burnside, will premiere on Friday, June 12 at 9 PM ET. PRIDELAND, running through the end of May and all of June, addresses how and why attitudes towards the community have changed, the ongoing challenges still faced by LGBTQ+ people, as well as stories of celebration and the vital role of allies. In their own voices.

Leather Archives and Museum needs

This is a challenging time and we need your help. With the museum closed, there is no revenue from admission sales. And with many events cancelled or scaled down, we have lost a significant portion of our funding. Please consider a donation today to help continue the work of collecting and preserving the history and culture of Leather, kink, BDSM and fetish. We appreciate you and your support, and are pleased to offer several acknowledgement gifts to recognize your generosity. Visibility matters. The Leather Archives & Museum was founded to ensure that the marginalized Leather, kink and fetish communities have a place for their stories to be collected and preserved, a place where their history can be seen and bear witness to the individuals and organizations that others have tried to hide and destroy.

We Are Better Together!

This group was created for everyone to be Better Together and have a little bit of fun winning some of the most trendy and sought after items through various surprises. In addition, we will be donating proceeds each week to various foundations such as Leather Heart Foundation. We will post a Surprise with how many slots are available and how much each slot costs. Make sure your page notifications are on so you don't miss any of the raffles. You comment on that post with how many slots you would like. Once we "like" your comment, VENMO or PAYPAL us for your slots and then sit back and relax. After all of the slots are filled and money is in, we will go live on the page and put all of the names into a random name generator and spin the wheel to determine our winner. The winning item will then be ordered and shipped directly to you (only US shipping available). All items are authentic and are ordered the day you win. Must be 18+.
