Jackhammer Complex saved in Chicago

A couple of Andersonville, Chicago, IL, bar owners have purchased the iconic Jackhammer Complex near the Leather Archives and Museum. The sale also means that Leather64TEN will be able to remain in its home next to Jackhammer. Jimmy Keup, who opened Jackhammer with his late partner, Joe Maggio, in 2001, will remain general manager of Jackhammer. Both are next to separately-owned Touche' which is Chicago's oldest and longest running Leather bar. The area will remain Chicago's top Leather destination for years to come. ABW 2019 winners named

The 2018 American Brotherhood Weekend, held October 5-7 in Chicago, Illinois, culminated in the naming of the 2018 American Leatherman and American Leatherwoman titleholders. Daddy Sky Cotton, of Chicago, is the new American Leatherwoman; Rai Guerra, of Asbury Park NJ, has been named as American Leatherman. Sea Wolf, of Charleston SC, was the runner-up for American Leatherman. ABW honored William “Rubberwilli” Schendel with the Jeff Baxter Award, acknowledging his work in promoting and supporting American Brotherhood Weekend. They also unveiled a new award, the Vern Stewart “Oh I See” award, and chose to award it to Joan Norry and Boy Chris.

Folsom Street Fair

The world's largest single Leather event, the Folsom Street Fair, was held on Sunday, September 30 and was the keystone of two weekends of fun for about 400,000 Leatherfolk and kinksters. Virtually every San Francisco Bay Area group was represented in one way or another, Leathermen's Dicussion Group's Reasonable Pup Play, Golden Gate Guards Cruise of San Francisco Bay. The 15 Association play party, Exiles Folsom Social, ONYX Northwest's Back to Black party, Society of Janus whipping demo area, BLUF SF's Hot Boots Brunch, Donna's Titleholder Brunch,, Alameda County Leather Corps. The area in front of the Powerhouse and the Steamworks Twister game were packed. The weather was overcast which was great for photographers and most of the crowd stayed until the end.

The Sunday morning Pre-Folsom Brunch held by Donna Sachet and Lenny Broberg was canceled then revived only days before being held in a second story warehouse half-a-block from Folsom and 13th Streets. Word made it around fast and it was a full house.

The Visibility Project

Phase one of The Visibility Project launched in 2017 on the principle that Diversity, Representation, Visibility and Inclusion must be perpetual efforts in our communities to ensure an equitable space for all. Beginning with a mission to provide visibility through display of identity flags of all in our communities launched the project. The Visibility Project has supplied flags to over 30 events in the past year with many more scheduled. Phase two (launching in 2019) seeks to provide scholarships to minority-identified Leatherfolk to be visible, representative and included in events otherwise beyond their reach so that they may share their knowledge and experiences and bring back those to their own home communities. 501c3 status is pending and a website will be launching soon. Midwest Puppy becomes Midwest Puppy and Handler

Midwest Puppy is now Midwest Puppy and Trainer. The organization is taking on a larger educational role as well as expanding its contest. With the approval of Midwest Puppy and Handler (MWPH) as a regional representative of International Puppy and Handler (IPAHW), MWPH will offer two workshops throughout the region. These two exciting workshop weekends will be The Midwest Spring Fling in April in Chicago, IL and the Midwest Fall Ball in August/September in St. Louis. Midwest Puppy has added a Handler portion to its contest starting in 2019 that will be accepted to run for International at IPAHW.

Manchester Leather Weekend

Manchester Leather Weekend returns October 5-8 and will be bigger and better than before with a weekend packed full of great events. IPAHW names host city

It is with great pleasure that IPAHW announces that it's Third Annual event will be held in Indianapolis, IN from July 25-28. Once again, IPAHW will be hosting the International Puppy and Trainer Contest. The reason for the move is simple: The community asked for it. The move allows us to rent out an entire hotel for our event, while still affording us 18,000 square feet of conferencing space. This means more activities, more classes, pool parties, play parties, etc.
