Nearly 150 Leather/Bikerfolk made the trek through Fresno and up into the Central California mountains for the Satyrs Motorcycle Club's Badger Flat Run over Labor Day weekend, August 30 - September 2. This was their 58th year of of hosting a huge bonfire, all-day cocktail bar, people and bike events, run awards presentation, great food, movies under the stars, bike christening, virgin rituals, sightseeing and immense brotherhood at 8,500 above sea level. This year, the US Forest Service closed multiple campsites through-out California due to years of drought-driven bark beetle infestations which forced the Satyrs to relocate the infamous Badger Flat Run for only the second time in history, to a campsite not as far up the winding road of the secluded Badger Flat Group Camp, this year at Midge Creek. the closing night’s entertainment, Finding Kinky Boots in Neverland, the Satyrs Players mash-up of several musicals on an elaborate outdoor built on-site stage. CLAW Makes Its Largest Charitable Distribution
CLAW Corp. distributed a record $85,000 to community charities, representing the net profits of CLAW XIX, held in April. Since it began in January 2002, CLAW’s annual event has now raised $680,000 for 52 charities. CLAW Corp. has helped raise an additional $290,000 at hundreds of smaller events around the country - bringing CLAW Corp.’s fundraising total to $970,000. 22 charities were awarded money. The largest shares were awarded to the Leather Archives and Museum ($23,000), the LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland ($10,750), the Leather Heart Foundation ($9,250), and Rainbow Railroad ($8,500). Plans are underway for the 23rd Annual Mates Leather Weekend to be held in Provincetown, MA October 3-7. The First Mate Contest judging panel will include Mr. FLAG 2019 Boggy Fryer, First Mate 2017 Tom Giuliana and Mr. Connecticut Leather 2020 Mark Richards. 500-600 people are expected to attend this four-day celebration of and for the Leather/Fetish community. Events include Boot Camp, Opening Reception, Uniforms and Cigars, Leather Market, First Mate Contest, Rubber Ball and the Infamous Fetish Party. Northeast Community Bootblack 2011 Jay Falcon will be on hand. MLW’s resident Buzz-cut barbers Danny Pantaleo and Billie Jean Beetam of SNIP Salon will be trimming at the Leather Market. Mates Leather Weekend has raised over $65,000 to date for the AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod through event pass sales, raffle, and other donations. Mr. Long Beach Leather
Writer and Leather community activist Eric Crow was the lone contestant for Mr. Long Beach Leather on Saturday night at Eagle 562 and he easily beat the minimum to earn his slot as a contestant for International Mr. Leather in Chicago next May. The Eagle 562 was full by the time the Sister of Perpetual Indulgence opened the show with one of their zany blessings. Joel Royal was the emcee. Louie Ramrod's step down was full of thank you's and appreciation for those who helped with his year.

CLAW elects four people to three-year terms on its Board
CLAW Corp. recently elected four people to three-year terms on the Board of Directors: Jonathan Schroeder from San Francisco (manager of Mr. S Leather), Enza Silano from Toronto (comptroller of Northbound Leather), James Lee from Louisville Kentucky (International Mr. Leather 2018), and Merrill Squiers from Ann Arbor (long-time CLAW leader. CLAW XX is April 23-26 at the Westin Cleveland Downtown and will feature more than 250 events and exhibitors, including the world’s largest curriculum of kinky sex education, a huge vendor mart, and dozens of parties. There is no Leather contest at CLAW.

Mr. Fire Island Leather 2010 Rob Ferri passes

Rob Ferri passed away on the afternoon of September 14, after a long battle with lymphoma. Rob was chosen as Mr. Fire Island Leather 2010 on May 22 of that year, at the 10th Anniversary of the Mr. Fire Island Leather contest at the Ice Palace in Cherry Grove, and was co-host, with Ariel Sinclair, of the 2014 contest. Rob performed in adult films under the name Collin Stone. He was a veteran of many seasons of Cherry Grove Doctor’s Fund benefit shows and was featured in a Leather Calendar, published in Pennsylvania, in 2011. We will sorely miss our dear friend and Leather brother.

The Leather Journal was founded in May, 1987. The Leather community was hungry for news magazine that covered clubs, organizations and events. TLJ has successfully met that need for 34 years. We have adapted to change more than once and when the Internet came about we were there by adding www.TheLeatherJournal.com
