The Fifth Annual Philadelphia Leather Pride Night (PLPN), brainchild of Pantheon of Leather Woman of the Year 2013 and Mid-Atlantic Leatherwoman 2009 Cowboi Jen, assisted by tireless team of producers Tina, Passion, boy chris, and Aquiel, took place on November 9 at Voyeur nightclub, in the Gayborhood.  The benefit raised more than $10,000 for worthy organizations Leather Leadership Conference (LLC); the Leather Archives and Museum (LA&M), “protecting our heritage and unlocking our history,” represented by Executive Director Rick Storer; the nearby William Way LGBT Community Center; By the Grace of George, Jo Arnone’s charity assisting the disabled in caring for their pets; and, receiving funds raised by the silent auction, the Visiting Nurse Association Health Group’s Prevention Resource Network’s LGBTQ Youth Drop In Center, in Asbury Park, New Jersey.


LeatherPride_flag_onChristopherStreetThe 44th Annual New York City LGBT Pride March took place on June 30, just four days after the landmark Supreme Court decisions striking down DOMA, the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, and California Proposition 8, and among the contingents was a sizable Leather one, spearheaded by the Eagle NYC.

EagleNYCRickWeberPeterSchwartzParticipants proudly carried a 20 by 30 foot Leather Pride flag, made by Mr. South Africa Leather 2013 Johann Jooste expressly for Philadelphia Leather Pride Night (PLPN), as the twin of one that was kept in South Africa, and lent to New York by PLPN Producer Cowboi Jen.

The contingent included Eagle NYC owner Derek Danton and Messrs. Eagle NYC 2013 Arsenio Amadis, 2011 CB Kirby, 2008 Peter Schwartz, 2007 Rick Weber, and 2005 Robert Valin, of Urban Bear; Messrs. DC Leather 2013 Nigel Williams and 2012 Kevin Jordan; Messrs. Fire Island Leather 2013 Candido Soares, 2005 Joe Saporito, and 2001 (the first) Bruce-Michael Gelbert; Arizona Empress Justice Prevails; Atlantic Motorcycle Coordinating Council President Joe Aiello with Mr. North American Bear 2012 Jed Ryan; and Mr. Metro Cub 2011 Heriberto Oquendo, Jr. and other members of ONYX.

Heritage of Pride hosts New York City’s Pride events in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, the beginning of the modern Gay Rights movement. Heritage of Pride (HOP) works toward a future without discrimination where all people have equal rights under the law. They do this by producing LGBT Pride events that inspire, educate, commemorate and celebrate this diverse community.

HOP is a founding member of the International Association of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Coordinators known as InterPride, a not-for-profit organization that provides support to over 180 groups that plan Pride events around the world. HOP is also a member of the following organizations: Northeast Regional Pride, NERP, an association of Pride committees in the Northeast United States; the International Lesbian and Gay Association, ILGA; the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, NGLTF; and the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association, IGLTA.
