Emcee Val Langmuir entertained the crowd and kept the pace going. The contestants were Tammy lg Hatter, Ms Willow Kat, Lola Ursula and Caity Lynch. They all gave dynamic speeches and thoughtful answers to the pop questions. The judges were

Smokeout is a fun-filled uncomplicated weekend in Las Vegas for cigar and pipe studs, Leathermen, bikers, bears and friends, from all over the world. A free-flowing weekend so everyone can enjoy Las Vegas the way they want - in the company of fellow studs. Brandon Bullet was tops among four men as the Mr. Bullet Leather title was revived on Saturday night, February 9 at the Bullet Bar in North Hollywood, CA. Val was the runner-up. Don Mike excelled as emcee. The meet and greet was held on Thursday night and the contestants performed fantasies then. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence opened with one of their zany blessings. It was revealed during one of the on-stage questions that Brandon is a violinist. Friday night featured Fox Hole which was a bathhouse theme party celebrating the golden days. International Geared Up Pup

The winner of the fourth International Geared Up Pup contest was announced on February 9 and his name is Presto Cerberus. Presto is Mr. Puppy Brazil 2020 and he is from São Paolo, Brazil. The runner-up is Pup Chaman, from Montreal, Canada. There were four categories: written application and three essays, still photographs showcasing pup image, a video showcasing pup playfulness, and character, charity, and service. The contest was judged by Mr. Puppy Europe 2019 Puppai Buumi, Ms D Dom, Mr. Fetish Finland 2019 Thomas Hurd, Mr. Texas Leather 2019 Kaprese Andre, Henk, Alpha Sage, Mr. San Diego Leather 2018 boy doriam and International Geared Up Pup 2019 Tosa Alphainu. The tally master was Atlanta drag persona Baby Doll Schultz. The primary responsibility of the winner is “to promote human pup play with the highest regard for integrity."

The Mr. Missouri Leather 2020 contest will be held at JJ's Clubhouse on Saturday, February 29. Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District Second Anniversary

On Saturday, May 9 the Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District will host a major event to celebrate the Second Anniversary of the creation of our Cultural District. It was indeed on May 9, 2018 that the Resolution establishing the Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District was signed by then-Mayor Mark Farrell. Since then, the group has become incorporated as a California Non-Profit Corporation, received 501(c)3 status, obtained funds from the City and private developers, hired a Cultural District Manager, done outreach to local residents, organizations, and businesses, advocated for and against local development projects, scouted possible locations for a Leather Cultural/Community Center, participated in parades and street fairs, worked with city agencies to create Leather and LGBTQ placemaking along Folsom and Harrison Streets, coordinated with the city’s other Cultural Districts, and begun work on developing our CHHESS — an essential strategy document that will guide the city in protecting and supporting our neighborhood for years to come. Leather History in Los Angeles 1945-1983

Avatar Club Los Angeles hosted the opening of its exhibition chronicling the Leather history of Los Angeles from 1945-1983 at the One Archives at the USC Libraries on Saturday night, February 1. The exhibit will run all of February and chronicles the clubs, bars, bike runs, milestones and publications, art, movies. Drummer Magazine was founded in Los Angeles in 1975 and there is a lot about Drummer, the Advocate which was founded in LA in 1969, motorcycle men who returned from World War II with an enthusiastic love for riding and brotherhood. The curator of the exhibit is Thomas Trafelet. The ONE Archive Foundation and Executive Director Jennifer Gregg supported and helped fund the project as did Avatar Club Los Angeles and Ralph Bruneau. The Curator for the ONE is Alexis Bard Johnson. If in Southern California, by all means, see this exhibit. It will give you a better understanding of our roots. Mid-Atlantic Leather - 50th Anniversary of Centaur MC

The new Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather is David Adam Spivey who won his title at the host Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill on Sunday afternoon, January 19 and the opportunity to compete at International Mr. Leather in May. He was chosen best of seven men competing. David is Mr. Pittsburgh Leather. The double barrel shot of one of the best produced Leather contests on the circuit was joined by the always-awesome Leather Cocktails on Saturday night, January 18. Mid Atlantic Leather is produced by the Centaur Motorcycle Club which celebrated its 50th year as a club. First runner-up was Mr. NC Triangle Leather 2019 Pupper Skinzy and second runner-up was Mr. Mayhem Leather 2019 Pup Lucky. Of course, Frank Nowicki was the emcee. Mid Atlantic Leather Weekend also included the MAUL bash, ONYX Cocktail Party and Gear Show, Highwaymen TNT Impact Sauvage, classes on BD/SM presented by SigMa, Super Heroes Meet Up, Puppy Park XII, events at the DC Eagle and Green Lantern, announcement of IML 2020 judges, SigMa Demonstations - several of them throughout the weekend, bootblacks available all weekend with 50-percent of proceeds going to the Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather travel fund, Sunday brunch, a huge vendor fair with 35 exhibitors, and Sunday night closing Reaction Dance at the 9:30 Club.

Lavender Magazine 641 honors Karri Plowman

It is great when one of ours is honored by the greater LGBT community for their efforts which affect the world beyond our scope. Leather businessman and activist Karri Plowman was presented a Lavender Community Award by Lavender Magazine 641 in his hometown Minneapolis on December 16 the magazine reported. Plowman co-owned Twin Cities Leather and Latte, a shop where Leatherfolk and kinksters could shop and socialize a cup or two of brew, and ran it for seven years. American Brotherhood Weekend changes ownership

The producers of American Brotherhood Weekend, home of the American Leatherman, American Leatherwoman, and American Leatherboy titles announced that effective January 1 2020, ownership will be transferred to Steven Carlisle, American Leatherboy 2016. Dean Ogren, co-producer, notes that “after owning and producing ABW with my amazing team, I want to ensure that ABW thrives for years to come, and new ideas and new, invigorated ownership, is the best way to do so." Steven Carlisle, of West Hollywood, California, commented, “I am excited, humbled, and honored to take the helm of ABW. For three decades, ABW has served the LGBT Leather community. I look forward to continuing the legacy of service. I hope to see so many of our family - both new, and established - in Chicago in October!"

Northeast Leather Contest Weekend's inaugural event was held December 6-8 at Rockbar in New York, NY where the first titleholders were chosen and they are Northeast Leatherperson 2020 Liquid ONYX, Northeast Leatherwoman 2020 Master Kaddan, ONYX Pearls NY NE President, Northeast Leatherman 2020 Donnie Bell and Northeast Bootblack 2020 Northeast Bootblack 2020 Steele Toe Onyx. Sir Damien produced the contest which was judged by International Community Bootblack 2019 AJ Porter, International Mr. Leather 2019 Jack Thompson, Northeast Handler 2020 Pup Iron, International Ms Leather 2010 Mollena Lee Williams-Haas and International Ms Leather 2011 Sara Vibes. The tally masters were Ms Atlanta Eagle 2019 Despoena Calypso and Atlantic States Leatherboy 2019 boy Kris. Northeast Leather included a Friday meet and greet, Saturday contest and Sunday victory beer bust brunch.

New Mexico Leather Bear/cub

Albuquerque’s diverse Leather and kink community came out to support the New Mexico Leather Bear/cub 2020 contest on November 3 at Sidewinders and the ABQ Eagle bar. New Mexico Leather Bear 2020 winner is Brian Thompson Tuffnell, and New Mexico Leather cub is Chris Michael Jones. New Mexico Leather Bear/cub was judged by Sir Bull, Marvin Ingram, Oliver X, Daddy Stan, and John Skelton who was the head judge. Enchanted Sisters - Las Hermanas Encantadas graced the event with their presentation of colors and an irreverent convocation before the contest. Jazz singer Tracey Whitney, Ray Charles backup vocalist, Bear Marvin, wowed the crowd with a duet of Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.” Other weekend activities included a Friday evening meet and greet, dungeon, Saturday brunch, contest, and Sunday brunch.

Cynthia Astuto passes

It is with great sorrow that I announce the death of a founder of our community. Cynthia Astuto was involved in the early day of Samois and one of the original authors of Coming to Power. She was a officer in the outcasts in SF and also served as the orientation leader for quite some time in the mid to late 80’s. As a lawyer she was in a unique position to make the outcasts her client which protected all the members in the form of attorney client privilege... at that time S/m was still considered a mental illness everywhere so it was dangerous to belong to groups if you had kids or planned to. Later in life she worked as a healer... she had amazing hands... she always said it was what made her a good top. She had a way of moving energy. She died today at approximately 12:17 PM (December 30) with her wife, brother, sister/ex lover of choice by her side and myself and my wife there with her. Her loss greatly diminishes my life and is something to be honored by our community as she was a trailblazer and a subtle fighter for our place in the gay community at large.

Things are beginning to shape up for Los Angeles Leather Pride which will be held at venues all over Los Angeles County from March 20-29.
