Southwest Leather Conference BootblacksThe Southwest Leather Conference celebrated its 10th Anniversary at the Hilton Phoenix Airport the weekend of January 19-21 with about 525 full registrations plus many others attending single events.
The highlights of the weekend were the Dance of Souls on Sunday afternoon, the Southwest Master and slave contest won by Sir Mystic and Marika; the Southwest Bootblack contest taken by Bear, keynote speeches by slave pug and Alia, presentation of awards, workshops, vendors and two pansexual play parties.International Mr. Leather 2009 was a complete riot as the emcee while Great Lakes Bootbkack 2011 Gabriel was the ASL interpreter.

Since moving to Phoenix, Sir Mystic and Marika have become active members of TNG-AZ, APEX, and Kinky and Geeky AZ. Marika has been on the board of TNG-AZ, with Mystic supporting her by helping as he can. They both serve on the board of Kinky and Geeky AZ in advisory roles.

Southwest Bootblack Bear has been in the BDSM community for 14 years and has been a member of the Dragon~Clan family for three years. An active member of the community, Bear has enjoyed many years of giving service as a volunteer at APEX, Butchmanns Experience, Southwest Leather Conference and as a member of The Grand Canyon Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Bear has given presentations on Fisting and Single-tails at APEX and Desert Dominion.

Elegant was the Bootblacks head judge and was assisted by Jim Dueder, KD, slave tabitha and Dave Rhodes.

Southwest Leather Conference director Joseph Brumley noted that full registrations were up from last year.

Almost everyone was impressed by the staff of the Hilton Phoenix Airport. Even the hotel manager Rick helped stack chairs in the hurried change over from theater format to the dungeon in the main ballroom. The staff wore event T-shirts and fit in well. They made everyone feel very welcome.

Slave pug was the endnote speaker during the Sunday brunch.

Master Skip headed the program and was the speaker for the Southwest Leather Conference awards. Honors went to: Southwest Leather Conference Spiritual Development Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 went to Lady Hawke; the Leatherman's Heart Award recipient was Master Obsidian, the Leatherwoman's Heart Award was given to Slave Alia, the Spirit of Service Award was presented to Daddy Kenneth, the Volunteer Of The Year Award went to boi moe and the Master Steve Sampson Golden Paintbrush Award honor was given to Viola Johnson. Master Obsidian and Viola Johnson were unable to attend, but had acceptance speeches read on their behalf.

The Mid Atlantic Leather Weekend, produced by the Centaur Motorcycle Club, went off without a glitch as a larger crowd than last year saw Matthew Bronson become Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather 2012, a fabulous Leather Cocktails, more vendors, great food, new club officers installed, and plenty of parties over Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend, January 12-15 at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

Nine men vied for the coveted Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather title with Mr. Pittsburgh Leather Fetish 2012 Matthew Bronson winning, Mr. PW's Leather 2012 Marc Sherkness Carcione taking first runner-up and Mr. Connecticut Leather 2012 Matt Kenney becoming second runner-up on Sunday afternoon.

Centaur member and Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather 1993 Frank Nowicki was the emcee for the weekend.

The judges for Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather were: Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather 2011 Doug Pamplin, International Mr. Leather 2011 Eric Guttierez, International Ms Leather 2011 Sara Vibes, Mr. San Diego Leather 2010 Anthony Rollar, American Leatherman 2000 Dean Ogren, Washington, DC Eagle owner Ted Clements and Mr. Hayes Valley Leather 2005 Jay Harcourt.

Earlier in the day, the following were installed as Centaur MC officers for this year: president Steve Ranger, vice president Todd White, treasurer Patrick Grady, recording secretary John Bonnage, corresponding secretary Tom Buckley, road captain Jeff Klotz, tribune Chaz Dean and centurion Bob Dye.

Leather Cocktails on Saturday night had a spread of food, mostly slider hamburgers, cheeses and dips and desserts that were gobbled up about as quick as Hyatt servers could set them out.
Gone was the pomp and circumstance of introducing each club member by name with grand entrances and the introduction of Mr. Mid Atlantic Leather contestants. The traditional presentation of club colors was the main show. The introduction of members, installation of officers and viewing contestants were done on Sunday.

The Men of ONYX had a dance party on Saturday afternoon and there was also a puppy mosh sponsored by the Mid Atlantic Kennel Korps that drew big crowds. MAUL (Mid Atlantic Uniform League) held a Saturday party, too.

Great Lakes Olympus Leather and the Indiana Master/slave contests saw Silent Whisper and Sir Greg of Indy win on Saturday night December 10 at the 501 Eagle Tavern in Indianapolis, IN. The new Mr.
and Ms Great Lakes Olympus Leather winners competed at International Olympus Leather in Los Angeles, CA.

The judges were headed by International Mr. Leather 2009 Jeffrey Payne, International Ms Olympus Leather 2009 Mistress Simone, Great Lakes Mr. Olympus Leather 2010 Sir Jason, Great Lakes Ms Olympus Leather 2010 girl katt, Indiana Master 2011 Master Sindarian, Mr. Exile Leather 2010 Robert Chandler and Sir Jonny who is the president of Bloomington Kink.

Tri State Leather WinnerDanny Cox of Cincinnati, OH was chosen Mr. Tri-State Leather 2011 the weekend of November 11-13, in Cincinnati, OH. The runner-up was Greg Slaven of Indianapolis.

Danny is originally from Lexington, Kentucky but has made Cincinnati home for some time. He is a member of Scorpius of Cincinnati and has been active in the Leather community for several years. Professionally, he is a nurse educator and looks forward to keeping the discussion of HIV alive within the community.

The judging panel included Thomas Smith, Marcus Carmichael,, Illinois Leatherboy 2011 Brian Mincey, Kim Justic, past Ms Indiana Leather Pride Beth Roberts and Mr. Maryland Leather 2010 Justin Terry Smith.

The emcees were Brooklyn-Steele Tate of Cincinnati and Doc Hoskins Jr. of Onyx North East.
