Centaur MC supports the Leather Archives & Museum

By Gary Wasdin

This year's Mid-Atlantic Leather weekend was another amazing event. The Centaur Motorcycle Club sets the bar high every time, kicking off the new year with a bang. In addition to the fun and celebration, the Centaurs also place a major emphasis on giving back to the community. This year, they gave out $100,000 in support to national and local charities, including a generous gift of $40,000 to the Leather Archives & Museum. This gift provides both operational support for the year, as well as a contribution to the LA&M endowment to ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization. The work we do to preserve our history quite simply would not happen without the Centaurs. The Centaur Motorcycle Club began in May 1970, first founded in Richmond, VA before soon moving its home base to Washington DC where it remains today.

Here they are!
The Nominations for the Pantheon of Leather Awards 2017 are in.
You will have the opportunity to vote on who the award recipients will be in all of these categories. Voting runs July 3-31

EDIT TO ORIGINAL POST: Facebook has seen a flood of concerns about the potential of gaming the online voting.  We contacted the Pantheon committee at ILSb-ICBB and have been assured they are recording IP Addresses and will be counting only the first votes from each IP to minimize "the American Idol" syndrome.  So while it appears you may be able to vote more than once, only the original vote from each IP will count towards the final tally. //end edit

The recipients will be announced on stage on Thursday night, August 31 during ILSLb ICBB in Dallas, TX. None of us will know who the winners are until the envelopes are opened on stage since a secure system is being used.
ILSLb ICBB 2017 will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dallas Near the Galleria.

NOTE: There was an increase in nomination participation in 2017. You, your club, business may have had several nominations and still not appear on the list below. Those with the most nominations made the cut and many did not even though they received as many nominations as in past years.

The nomination process for the 2017 Pantheon of Leather Awards began on Thursday morning, June 1 with a deadline of June 17. This is the first step in a greatly-renovated awards system.

The community makes nominations as it has done in the past, but there is a sharp turn from there. The community will vote for the nominee finalists who are determined by which received the most nominations. The old system has selection panels comprised of previous years' award recipients. This move gives the greater community more say in who wins and will generate more interest.

As in the past, it is all electronic. The nomination form is a simple-to-use Survey Monkey program.

The roll out was done on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media. In the first day there were over 100 forms submitted and most had several nominations in each.

To make your nominations click here. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PantheonAwards

Once nominations are collected, nominees will be notified in order to obtain their bios. Final voting will be open to the general public from July 1-31.

The Pantheon of Leather Awards will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Dallas Near the Galleria on Thursday night, August 31 during International Leather Sir, Leatherboy and Community Bootblack weekend in

Dallas, TX. The theme is Defiant.

This is the emotional reality of outliving the AIDS epidemic

IML 2017 Ralph Bruneau reflects on the impact of losing loved ones to HIV

By Ralph Brunueau, appearing in Gay Star News

"My recent FB post got picked up for publication today, National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Means the world to be able to tell this story on this day." "Walking the dog in Griffith Park. So beautiful. Love the day. Love my dog. Love my life. I see a bruise on my leg. An irregular shape, small, purple with a bit of black. How did that happen? I don’t remember hitting it on anything. Time stops. I’m in Manhattan. I’m walking into the hospital room to see my ex for the first time since he broke us off and I moved to los angeles. I walk in the room, shaking,, scared. I have been warned about what I will see..." Read all of what Ralph Bruneau has to say at

Folsom Street Fair sees perfect weather

The Folsom Street Fair on Sunday, September 24 saw some of the best weather in the Fair's history.. The Folsom Street Fair was the culmination of San Francisco Leather Pride Week and had two huge dance parties, Magnitude dance on Folsom Street at 13th Street and the Deviants dance on Folsom Street at 8th Street. About 400,000 Leather and fetish enthusiasts descended upon the South Of MArket (SOMA) area for the festivities Magnitude dance area on Folsom Street at 13th Street, and the Deviants dance area on Folsom Street at 8th Street. Most of the vendors were repeats, but there were a few newbies. Lots of skin and nudes, more Leather, and plenty of rubber and puppies. National Coming Out Day is Sunday, October 8
29 years ago, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights, we first observed National Coming Out Day as a reminder that one of our most basic tools is the power of coming out. One out of every two Americans has someone close to them who is gay or lesbian. For transgender people, that number is only one in 10. https://www.hrc.org/resources/national-coming-out-day

Voices of the Quilt musical needs funding
By Race Bannon
This project is important to me. The Quilt is a vital part of our history and served as a mechanism of solace during my own grieving when my first partner died of AIDS. This project needs money to move forward and I hope many of my friends donate. Donations of any amount, small or large, will help. Your donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. Two good friends, Jörg Fockele and Adam Ouderkirk, are part of this project's core production team and they uphold the highest standards and are men of impeccable integrity. Voices of the Quilt, endorsed by AIDS Memorial Quilt co-founder Cleve Jones and by the NAMES Project, is the story of a community, ravaged by the HIV/AIDS crisis, that rose up and took unprecedented action in the fight for human rights, in part through the creation of what became the AIDS Memorial Quilt - nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, and estimated at 54 tons, the world's largest piece of folk art. The musical is a moving requiem to the fallen, a call to fight against a ravaging pandemic, and, above all, a celebration of life and the strength of community. Uplifting, joyous, and full of spirit, you will stomp your feet and sing out loud. Demos of song selections, performed by the composer, can be listened to on the donation page. https://www.generosity.com/community-fundraising/voices-of-the-quilt-workshopfundraising/voices-of-the-quilt-workshop

Forever Hard: The Story of the Everhard Baths
Author, actor and activist Ed Sparan conducts a presentation about the Everhard Baths Fire, which killed nine gay men in New York City in 1977. During this pivotal time in gay history, just after the Stonewall Riots, the gay community came together to better establish cleaner and safer places for gay men. When the AIDS crisis hit in the 1980s, bathhouses were shut down and sex turned back into the backrooms of bars by the 1990s. Ed will also talk about the play "Forever Hard" which tells the story of what happened that tragic night in May 1977.
