The Mr. Long Beach Leather contest will be held on the weekend of September 12-13 at the Mineshaft When the location was announced last year it was about generating new interest in the contest.
Although the producers of the contest received a lot of polite smiles and some out right discontent within the general Leather community, the contest went on to justify the change by attracting the curios who would not normally go to such an event as well as Leatherfolk and the locals who had not worn their Leather in many years. It will be interesting to see if the buzz generated last year from guys wanting to enter the contest will carry over to this year as the contest is still open to anyone who loves Leather and lives or supports the Long Beach community.
Again this year a bar run is planned for the weekend before the contest on Friday the September 6 to promote the contest and Leather pride. Over 40 people participated in the first bar run held for the 2013 contest. The bus will travel to various locations in and around Long Beach with the contestants, emcees and friends to help promote the MrLBL 2014 contest.

Saturday night, September 28, 2013 found Arizona Power Exchange, Phoenix AZ celebrating their 25year anniversary. Festivities included the First Annual Master/slave Contest, dinner and a play party.
It was quite appropriate to have the Master/slave contest in conjunction with the anniversary party as two of the Founders of APEX – Master Bert and slave Nadine were the very first SW Master/slave titleholders and went on to win International Master/slave 2003.
Jayson Scott (Jay or “Jayson” Schoolnick) passed away peacefully on November 17, 2013 after a long battle with colon cancer. Jayson held the Mr. Connecticut Leather 2007 title.
Jayson fought the disease with valor, enduring cycle after cycle of chemotherapy for nearly five years before finally allowing himself to be released to hospice care in October. I have lost friends and family members before, but this has been among the most painful losses. Weeks later, I find myself simultaneously mourning and cursing Jayson’s hoarding tendencies as I help his mother clean out his tidy (but full) condominium in Middletown, Connecticut.
Jayson was intensely private and many people did not know of his battle with cancer. Even during his final weeks, I had to carefully ask his permission before calling on friends to come visit him. Over the years, chemotherapy treatments were often arranged to avoid Bear Week or the Mr. Connecticut Leather Contest, allowing Jayson to participate without anyone suspecting. While I was often critical of the need for such privacy, I came to respect it over the years as I realized that Jayson was fighting harder than anyone else that I have ever known. He complained when he needed to vent and was often angry, pushing me and other friends away for weeks at a time. Yet he went back for more – more surgery, more chemo, and more doctor visits.

During the weekend of March 21-23, San Antonio, TX will be host to its first weekend-long Leather and Fetish event. The Alamo City Leather and Fetish Weekend is a continuation of the Alamo City Leather and Fetish Ball, which occurred last March. The prior event was an evening-long party and show which took place at the Silver Dollar Saloon, and included several demonstrations by local and visiting kinksters, including hook suspension and stapling, as well as individual performances.
The Ball was so successful that it seemed only fitting to expand the event to encompass an entire weekend, while adding contests, classes, more vendors, and a Sunday brunch to the itinerary. The host hotel is the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel next to the San Antonio Airport. For early arrivals, the hospitality suite will be open in the afternoon, and there will be an unofficial “meet-n-greet” and early check-in held that evening at The Annex. Check-in will also be held throughout the day on Friday in the hospitality suite.
The real Alamo City Leather and Fetish Weekend fun begins Friday evening with a Fetish Contest at Silver Dollar Saloon. The contest is open to any contestant, regardless of gender or orientation. The competition will include best fetish representation within the community and a live fantasy acted out on stage.
