VT: Is your contestant run sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization?  Please tell me about your Sponsor(feel free to include a copy of their logo and a url to their website) and your involvement with them in 100 words or less.

MC: Texas Leather Productions owned by Jaffrey Payne-Roy and David Roy. The contest is held at the Dallas Eagle.

VT: Power Exchange or SM?

MC: Both, I am in a power exchange relationship and I also practice SM.

VT: In 100 words or less, tell me about your answer to number 2.

MC: I have been in a power exchange relationship with my slave for 17 years, and we both enjoy an SM relationship. For me personally there is nothing better than surrender and control in our dynamic. Those two words describe all aspects of our relationship. There is a connection both in play and the relationship that goes beyond words for me. It is the mind and whole body experience that you do not get with everyone. Sure I can do a power exchange in a dungeon with just about anyone, but it just doesn't go as deep as when you have that person who will do anything to please you. They surrender to your every whim knowing that you will do no harm.

VT: Tell me in your own words how you feel about Service.

MC: I love service, I love the whole idea behind service. Not everyone is into service and some just don't understand just how much service is a turn on. Service good service is a turn on and those that truly understand it can make even the toughest dominant melt. Kneel at my feet and I get hot.

VT: How does your body react to the scent of worn leather?

MC: Leather the smell and the feel of leather is such a turn on. Yes I can appreciate a woman or a man that is wearing leather and when you walk up to them and that smell hit your nostrils I get wet! There is no other way for me to describe it.. I just get wet.

MC: To carry on a proud tradition, a tradition that is filled with herstory and history, to continue my work on giving back to the community that I love, to inspire other women and men to step up and help the community not step away from the community. As an elder it gives me the golden opportunity to teach our herstory and history to a wider audience than ever before.master-ces-williams-2013-ms-texas-leather

The top Leather community stories of 2013

Proposition 8 Overturned Marc Watrel By Dave RhodesAs in every year, there are stories that define a year, mark a change for the better or worse, establish the end or beginning of an era, lend recognition to achievement, or just simply make a statement that cannot be forgotten. Here are ours.

The Leather Journal's Top Story of 2013

US Supreme Court overturns Proposition 8 - Marriage-ban states fall like dominoes

Not long after the United States Supreme Court ruled that the plaintiffs who sued to have Proposition 8 reinstated had no standing, enabling same sex marriages to resume in California, marriages resumed.

Only a handful of states allowed same-sex marriage at the beginning of 2013. By the end of the year, 18 states, plus the District of Columbia, permitted same-sex marriage, with a few more likely to change. The last of the bunch, Utah on December 20 because a court judge ruled their same-sex marriage ban that was voter-approved in 2004 is unconstitutional. This was the biggest surprise of all. A dagger was struck into one of the main arteries of the devil that has fought against same-sex marriage.

Alaina

Ms. Philadelphia Leather 2016

Philadelphia, PA

I produce a monthly gear event called Clutch at The Bike Stop

My favorite piece of leather is my harness boots.

Is your run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization? If so Please tell me about all your Sponsors (feel free to include a copy of their logos and a urls to their websites) and your involvement with them in 100 words or less.   The Bike Stop owns the Mr. and Ms. Philadelphia titles. Their owners and staff are like family to me. Thebikestop.com
Philadelphians MC produce the Philadelphia Leather contest and I am an associate of the club. Philadelphiansmc.org
The Leather Man creates custom pieces for me. Theleatherman.com

Tell me about your favorite charity.    Youth charities have long been my focus, but there’s a new organization that I have been focusing on lately, the LGBTQ Home for Hope, that has really galvanized the community. The only LGBTQ homeless shelter in Philadelphia, it is a 37-bed facility that also aids those in recovery and is funded exclusively from private donations.

Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.    I feel that community service is an integral part of the leather community, especially as a title holder, and it is enriching to me to be a part of a group that I believe is like-minded. Community service is the most rewarding aspect of being a titleholder.

What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?    Leather and kink have been a part of my entire adult life. Forgive me for being trite, but I think that I was born this way. Being able to participate in the community has allowed me to be a teacher, a leader and resource which is truly what's at the heart of being a leather woman.

Who is your favorite Leather Woman…Why?    My favorite Leather Woman (excluding my Philadelphia predecessors, of course) is Christy Lee, Ms. New Jersey Leather 2016. From the moment I met her she has been nothing but welcoming,  kind, and generous and has the biggest heart of anyone I know.  She is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and the overwhelming support she is receiving is reflective of how much she means to so many.

VT: Is your contestant run sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization?  Please tell me about your Sponsor(feel free to include a copy of their logo and a url to their website) and your involvement with them in 100 words or less.

CF: Alameda County Leather Corps (ACLC) is a non-profit organization that promotes educational and charitable activities through social interaction among people with an interest in leather, Levi’s, uniforms, and latex. The club is composed mostly of residents from San Francisco’s East and South Bays. ACLC was founded in 1993 as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) leather corps, and has since donated in excess of $300,000 to charities serving Alameda County. We are proud to state that 100% of the net receipts, raised at our events, go directly to the chosen charities. ACLC’s website is:  http://www.acleather.org/

VT: Power Exchange or SM?

CF:

VT: In 100 words or less, tell me about your answer to number 2.

CF: My preferences, in regards to kink actives, are not confined to limited landscapes. My strength of will is matched by my innate character of fairness. I enjoy drawing people into my world, where they will belong. Being especially sensual and erotic, I enjoy sharing fantasies and indulging fetishes. My keep my sphere safe, in which I explore my deepest, darkest, and most secret desires within S&M, B&D, and Fetish. I am a sadistic top who teaches and tortures partners, to shape them to my perfection. My partners serve and suffer pain, by my stinging touch.

VT: Tell me in your own words how you feel about Service.

CF: I believe in selfless service to the leather community, which I demonstrate when I participate or produce an event and it benefits our leather/bdsm/fetish community, and I view service by all as a vital part of the camaraderie process. We all provide some type of service, whether we think of it as service or not, and I believe there is nothing sexier than when service is offered and provided out of a genuine and deep desire to help and be of service to others.

VT: How does your body react to the scent of worn leather?

CF: The scent of worn leather makes me genuinely a little hot and bothered. My reaction is similar to when I smell a good cigar or pipe tobacco, which is also a strong attraction of mine. Words that come to my mind when I think of the smell include: sexy, powerful and raw. Adding piss play into the mix of worn leather pants totally gets my attention every time!

The basics:
Name: Christy Ford
City, State: San Ramon, CA

I am a co-chair of ACLC’s Education Program, which is held the fourth Monday of the month at the Lighthouse Community Center in Hayward, California.

This year I produced Santa Slave Auction, a yearly event through ACLC where we auction off local community members for charity.

I am a co-producer of Lucky in Leather, a yearly event that raises funds for Tri-City Health Center, California.

CF: (my favorite leather?) My favorite leathers are my cargo pants; I just love all the pockets. I use them to carry around everything from lube to my lipstick.

VT: 100 words about what you will with the IMsL Title.

CF: In my title year I would like to incorporate my biggest interest into my duties, which happens to be art. Specifically, I would like to learn about other leather women’s mediums for their art, whether it be photography, acrylic or oil on canvas, or leatherwork. In my travels, I want to share, document, and highlight female artists within our sisterhood. My goal is to leave behind a living archive of 2013’s female perceptions of sexuality in the leather community. As a photographer myself, I wish to document the women who make our leather events happen, the people whom I spent time with, shared stories, and include both the well-known and unfamiliar of our community.

Tell me about your favorite charity.    United Negro College Fund – I attended a HBCU and I relish in that experience. The UNCF supports Historical Black Colleges and Universities and has given tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to African American college students.

Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.    I love community service. I ran for my current title because I knew it would be one that I would have to raise money for  my local area charities while at the same time increasing the exposure of our presence to non leather folks to our community in a way that is approachable.

What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?    I am a leather woman because when Tom of Finland was painting he forgot to include women. I am a leather woman because I want to love in the way that Tom of Finland portrays in his pictures. I am a leather woman because I love the smell of leather and I love the look and feel of it against my naked skin. I am a leather woman because my little heart has been kinky since it arrived.

Who is your favorite Leather Woman…Why?    Vi Johnson - Vi Johnson is part of my herstory as a black woman in leather. Vi Johnson’s dedication to preserving the his/herstory of the leather, fetish history is very inspiring to me.
What do you feel is the most dangerous mis-information passed through traditional & social media affecting our community today, and how would you combat it should the opportunity arise?    The most dangerous misinformation that I believe is passed about our community is that we are somehow abnormal or defective. And that our abnormality is that the way we love is wrong.  I would combat that by telling them that the family we have built under the umbrella of leather builds a community that I have not seen replicated in the world.  We bring men and women together and support not only each other but the general world around us.  Leather grow.

Survived by her life partner Margaret Begley. Meek had been suffering illness and had suffered several falls over the last few months but details surrounding her death this morning are unknown at this time.

Amy Marie was known to many as Daddy, Bare or Papa or Aunt Bare.  The nickname Bare was short for Bare Images, which was the company that Meek ran that actually held ownership of IMsL during Meeks "IMsL Gen 2".

Amy Marie "Bare" Meek with IMsBB 03 Boi Eddie Shared by a Screen Shot from High Shine by Christina Court of High Moo Productions

Perhaps best known for her IMsL/IMsBB Legacy, her title journey started in 1992 with Ms Nebraska Leather. Then in 1993 she won International Ms Leather. In 1994 she purchased IMsL from the board and ran the contest 1995-2006.  It was under her ownership that the contest grew into the weekend event style we enjoy today. It was also Meek who approached Chuck Renslow, owner of the then co-ed International Bootblack Contest, and convinced him to endorse splitting the contest in two. Creating the International Ms. Bootblack Contest in 1999.

Meek is the first of the IMsL/IMsBB Alumni to pass away. Our hearts go out to each and every reader whose life was made better by this phenomenal woman.

Meek was the first female to judge IML, however, she was so much more than a titleholder. Amy Marie has been described as trailblazer. An out and proud lesbian since the 80’s. She came out in high school amid a climate that was less than ideal or supportive.  She was also an activist. Meek was a member of the 1993 March on Washington as well as a rabid backer for the DSM-IV revisions.

Amy Marie was definitely her own person and lived life on her own terms.  She was an influence to those who sought out how to be masculine women and have pride in one's self and their community, no matter what community one’s path would take them to. An unorthodox sense of humor, Meek gave hugs that tried to heal the world.  Even when she didn’t understand or appreciate a person's view she still loved and encouraged them to follow their heart.

Unapologetic, strong, brave, and troubled, Amy Marie “Bare” Meek was a Leather Icon. Her methods of community involvement made for some legendary battles. But, one thing is for certain, Amy Marie Meek forever changed the leather landscape for all women.

My favorite item I have is my rhinestone corset.

Is your run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization? Rose Rock girls of Leather- They the producers of Oklahoma Ms. Leather. I have been active in the activities that RRgoL puts on. https://rrgol.org

Tell me about your favorite charity.    My favorite charity is Team Friendly because of all the education they share to help remove the stigma of HIV testing and the stigma related to those living with HIV and/or their loved ones.

Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.    Community service makes me feel like I am doing something for someone or something greater than myself. It's a way for me to keep myself centered.

What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?    My heart is what makes me a Leather Woman. I have a desire to help support women in realizing there is a place for them and to trust in themselves in that place.

Who is your favorite Leather Woman…Why?    Sandy "Mama" Reinhardt- Because she is and has been so supportive and involved with individuals in the community suffering from HIV/AIDS. Everything she does for her community is done out of love and comes from her heart.

What do you feel is the most dangerous mis-information passed through traditional & social media affecting our community today, and how would you combat it should the opportunity arise?    Traditional and social media allow bullying of children, teenagers and anyone "different" with very little consequence. When leaders are allowed to bully, everyone else believes it's ok. According to The Southern Poverty Law Center, 867 hate incidents occurred between the period of November 9th through November 18th 2016. Education and stricter laws is the only way that this can be decreased. I would educate and lobby for stricter punishments.

My club recently opened up its doors to womyn. Previously, the community only invited in cisgendered men, most of whom were White. In 2014, Jaco led a road to opening up the community to anyone who identifies with Leather, regardless of their gender. Whilst SA Leather lost many members, it creates a foundation for a more open and accessible Leather organization.

I joined SA Leather in 2014 and was able to be part of the first competition open to womyn! I haven’t looked back since.
