A new catalog published by the LA&M, Leather Archives & Museum : 25 Years, celebrates a milestone anniversary for the community institution which is located in Chicago and serving the world.
Most candidates would shy away from having a portrait taken on a motorcycle wearing full formal biker Leather. They would be afraid their constituents might take offense and be shocked by such a powerful and frankly sexual image.
Not so for the late Governor Ann Richards who donned a kinky white fringed Leather outfit and posed astride a Harley Davidson for a Texas Monthly cover. It was quite a sensation and regarded as a great PR move on her part. That was in 1992 and people thought it was pretty cool back then.
The Leather Archives and Museum (LA&M) has announced that Bob Behr has assumed the duties as President of the Board of Directors in light of Jon Krongaard’s announcement he is stepping down as President, effective September 27. Krongaard will retain his position on the Board of Directors, of which he has been a member of the last 17 years. Krongaard said, “It has been an honor to serve as President of the Board, but after relocating to New York, my focus and energies must now be directed towards my career pursuits. The Archives is in great hands under the leadership of our outstanding professional staff, dedicated volunteers and passionate board.” Krongaard added, “I have complete confidence in Bob to lead the institution into the future and he has my total support."
Behr is a longstanding member of the leather, kink, BDSM, and fetish communities. He joined the Leather Archives and Museum Board of Directors in October of 2016 and quickly took on leadership roles serving as Chairperson of the Governance and Board Development Committee. “I am humbled and honored to lead the board during this important time in LA&M’s history, said Behr.
Longtime member of the LA&M Board Member, Randall “Bear Man” Klett noted, “Bob has a solid understanding of what it takes to lead both an organization and a board. His passion and excitement impresses me and I look forward to him leading the Board’s strategic planning session next month."
If you would like to meet or reconnect with Bob to informally share your ideas and perspectives related to the LA&M, he will be hosting an informal lunch conversation Saturday, October 7 from 12:30 – 1:30 PM at the Etienne Auditorium of the Leather Archives and Museum located at 6418 North Greenview Avenue.

Founded in 1991, in just 26 years the Leather Archives & Museum has become recognized worldwide as a significant center dedicated to the compilation, preservation, and maintenance of primary materials on the leather, kink, BDSM and fetish communities and their cultures in both physical and electronic formats. The building houses the Teri Rose Library with holdings of over 3,000 books and 12,600 journals and periodicals, searchable by an online catalog, 1425 square feet archival storage space, and eight exhibit galleries. Among its ongoing endeavors are the Women’s Leather History Program, a gallery with rotating exhibits that celebrate contemporary artists who inspire dialogues related to Leather, kink, BDSM and fetish and a community space used for programming and special events. The LA&M is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a charity under the 501 c (3) provisions of the Internal Revenue Code. Nearly all income is derived from the generous support of member organizations within the Leather/kink/BDSM/fetish communities.

The Leather Hall of Fame announced the names of its 2017 inductees: Durk Dehner, Peter Fiske, and MSC Hamburg who will be honored at a brunchduring CLAW (Cleveland Leather Awareness Weekend) on Sunday, April 30 at the Westin Cleveland Downtown in Cleveland, OH.
The Leather Hall of Fame was established to honor and preserve the legacy of the extraordinary men and women who have significantly shaped the history of the Leather/BDSM communities worldwide since 1950.
Durk Dehner (b. May 23, 1949)
Durk Dehner provided much of the institutional and organizational structure that made the art of Tom of Finland (2009 inductee) widely known in the United States and around the world. Originally from Canada, by the 1970’s Dehner was a hustler and worked as a model for Bruce Weber and others in New York. He wrote a fan letter to Tom after seeing one of his drawings at the bar, and they became pen pals and eventually business partners and artist and muse. They created the Tom of Finland Company in 1978 and the Tom of Finland Foundation (ToFF) in 1984. For more than 30 years, Dehner and the ToFF have been the curator owners of TOM House in Los Angeles, where he and Tom lived during the last and most prolific years of the artist’s life. For more than 30 years the ToFF has preserved Tom’s work and been a key institution in preserving and fostering masculine gay sexual art.
Peter Fiske (b. 1946)
Whip and whipping expert Peter Fiske has been a mentor to two generations of Leatherfolk.
Originally from New York City, Peter Fiske has been a Leatherman for more than 50 years.
He is a Stonewall veteran and a member of the Stonewall Veterans Association. He moved to San Francisco in 1966 and was a member of the Koalas MC San Francisco from 1966 to 1969. Peter is a founding member and Chairman Emeritus of The 15 Association San Francisco and of Delta International (Chairman and Coordinator 2009/2010), and a long time member of GMSMA, SNC London and the Chicago Hellfire Club. Peter was presented the Caligula Award at Inferno XXV in 1996. Also known as "Daddy Peter,” he is a well-known educator and has presented at hundreds of events and clubs across the country. Peter was San Francisco Leather Daddy XXI in 2003. His community service includes Board Member (1999-2003) and President (2000) of the AIDS Emergency Fund and cofounder of the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund. Peter was a SF Pride Board member from 2002 to 2004 and was awarded the Heritage of Pride Award in 2005 for long term service of over 15 years to the SF LGBT community. He has long been a strong advocate for acceptance and inclusion of transgender men and women in the Leather and SM community. Now retired in Palm Springs, Fiske is still an activist and educator.
MSC Hamburg e. V. (Founded 1974)
The MSC Hamburg was officially founded in 1974 after the first official Hamburg Leather meeting the year before. After this big success with around 300 visiting Leathermen from various European countries, the MSC decided to host the second Leather meeting in August 1974 where they showed a fist fuck movie at the event: the first time such a movie had been shown to the German public. This began the club’s influence on European Leather. The annual MSC Hamburg Leather meeting became the number one Leather event in Europe — including wild parties on the famous MS Cap San Diego ship. The MSC party posters created by Martin S. Cool (aka Günter Henzler) are legendary. Along with producing the annual Leather meeting, the club and its members are active in Hamburg LGBT organizations, and produce the Mr. Hamburg contest.

Jaco: For those who don’t already know, please tell us about yourself and your connection with the Leather world.
Race: I’ve been active in the Leather scene since 1973. Initially, apart from being a bartender in a sleazy kinky bar, I was essentially a lone maverick player. Then around 1980 I got deeply involved with various clubs, organizations and projects that changed that lone wolf status. Since then I’ve been an organizer, writer, educator, speaker and activist in the LGBT, leather/kink, polyamory and HIV/STI prevention realms. I’ve authored a well-known BDSM book, been published extensively, spoken to hundreds of audiences, created the world's largest kink-friendly psychotherapist and medical referral service (Kink Aware Professionals), was a leader of The DSM Project that led to a beneficial change in the way psychotherapy views BDSM, founded a groundbreaking alternative sexuality publishing company (Daedalus Publishing Company), been an internet radio sex talk show host, received national and local awards, appeared in numerous documentaries, and currently am the Leather/kink columnist for the Bay Area Reporter http://www.ebar.comwww.ebar.com I also have a blog at http://www.bannon.com and there’s more information about me there for those who might be interested.

Richard "Rich" Dockter, co-owner and producer of Thunder in the Mountains in Denver, CO, passed away unexpectedly on September 20, 2016.
Rich had recently been diagnosed with HPV throat cancer and had been undergoing treatment. Since his diagnosis he had been a advocate for people to get vaccinated against HPV as it is now one of the rising cancers in both men and women.
Rich had been in the the Leather community for over 20 years touching many of people's lives over the years through presenting at events, producing his own event and meeting and greeting complete strangers on the street. He volunteered his services at the Denver Police with Missing Children Department for several years. He later volunteered his time at Hey Denver a local free STD testing facility. Rich always had a knack for striking up and carrying on a conversation with the people he met.
Whenever you would run into him, he would always have a smile and upbeat attitude. Rich was never one to shy away from situations and always lived his life to the fullest. He leaves behind his husband Brian and their four Shar-Pei dogs. He will be missed greatly and has left a hole in the heart of many within the community.
Services will be October 22, 2016 at 12 PM at Horan & McConaty in Denver, CO, followed by a reception at the Tavern DTC.

One of the defining characteristics of ILSLb ICBB is the up front philosophy that Leather Sir, Leatherboy and Community Bootblack are about sex. These contests and titles are about the representation of the sexual side of the Leather community. Our goals include networking and outreach to help educate the community about Leatherfolk, our erotic expression, traditions and history - and of course, hot Leather sex.
