Off Sunset Festival draws huge crowd
The Off Sunset Festival, held in Los Angeles, CA on Sunday, June 5 in perfect weather, was back from a two-year hiatus with a bang. The huge street festival was held at Santa Monica Blvd. at Hoover and Myra next to Eagle LA which saw long lines of Leatherfolk waiting to get in. It seems every type of kinkster was there.
Headliner band Sweet performed the last hour-plus of the show to wild applause. Other acts included Man On Man, Big Dipper, Allison Chains, Cocks and GayC/DC rocking away on the west end stage. DJ Candy spun between band sets.
Many of the Leather community businesses and organizations had booths, there were the food trucks and lots of bare chested men - as in as many as 10,000 of them. It is not certain if there were that many at the Off Sunset Festival, but if not, it was close. From begining to end the energy was high, What is clear is the Charlie and Hunter have a winner.
Tom of Finland had Mark Bellenger promoting Tom's Bar. Rebellion Rugby Team which represented Eagle LA, had a booth but their famous dunk tank was not there. Maximus, Regiment of the Black and Tans, LA Leather Pride, and BLUF had a large section. CMEN - California Men's Gathering had a booth promoting the West Coast Gathering of nudists. Avatar Club Los Angeles and SoCal Bondage Club shared a space where they sampled flogging with guests. The puppies were represented by Dan and Matthew.
Off Sunset Festival producers posted the following regarding their mission, "Off Sunset Association is a group of individuals who live, work and play in the Silver Lake area. It is with great affection for this diverse community that we are launching the Off Sunset Festival. We own businesses here. We frequent the local restaurants and bars. We spend time in this incredible section of Los Angeles and we want to give back. It is our goal to support beautification, art and youth programs with an emphasis on the LGBT community. Not only will this new street fair be an exciting day of music, culture, art, food and fun, but it will also bring a way for us to offer our support for the place and people we love ."
