Gary Wasdin intro letter as new Executive Director of the Leather Archives

Greetings!

My name is Gary Wasdin, and I am the new Executive Director of the Leather Archives & Museum. I am humbled to have been chosen to lead this organization and to continue the work that so many have contributed to over the past 26-plus years. While I am only in my third week, your passion and commitment to the LA&M and its work is evident. Thank you for your support.

It has been a busy start to the new year. I am pleased to share that Leslie Anderson has joined us as a Leather Care Specialist. Leslie is working to repair and preserve our collection of Leathers. She is focusing on those needing the most critical attention as we raise the funds necessary to continue this important work.

As many of you know, Director of Operations Jeffrey Storer resigned in December 2017 after an amazing 14 1/2 year career with LA&M. Please join us in wishing Jeff the very best in this new chapter, and thanking him for his many accomplishments and years of hard work. Longtime volunteer Adam Hart has joined the LA&M team temporarily to assist with our work.

I've enjoyed meeting many of you here in Chicago or at Mid-Atlantic Leather earlier this month. I hope to continue those introductions out on the road at some of our upcoming "Road Show" events. Be sure to look for me here:

Seattle Leather Pride: March
Kinkfest: March
IMsL/IMsLBB: April
CLAW: April
IML: May

Finally, look for an improved virtual presence for the LA&M as we work to build an enhanced website that places more of the LA&M's collections front and center online, and as we work to create a "virtual docent" that can accompany us to events throughout the year. These projects are funded through a number of generous supporters, including Centaur MC, CLAW, and the Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board.

Your support helps ensure that we fulfill our mission, making leather, kink, BDSM and fetish accessible through research, preservation, education and community engagement. If we haven't yet met, I look forward to a conversation soon. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime via e-mail or phone (773) 761-9200.

Best,
Gary
