Welcome to Dave Rhodes' Hump Day - Wednesday, November 22, 2017

The holidays are here. The Leather/Levi/Fetish/Kink/Gear/Rubber/Puppy/Motorcyle community knows how to party and fund raise during this special time of year and you will see the tip of the iceberg as far as events to attend and support. Some are of the ages and some are new - all for a good cause. If you have an event coming soon, make sure to capitalize on the publicity offered here. If your event has just completed, please send a brief write-up and a few photos. See the writer guidelines at the bottom of this post. I started this Hump Day weekly in August with 15 short stories - this week there are 40 - and 23 photos. Share it with your friends.

Sociologists Reclassify BDSM As “Leisure Activity” In Bid To Remove Stigma
By Katy Evans of IFLScience!
In a bid to remove the stigma surrounding BDSM sexual practice, sociologists are attempting to reclassify it as a “leisure activity” akin to golf. I don’t know about you, but I think I’m playing golf wrong. The researchers, led by Idaho State University, wanted to build on recent studies that suggested instead of a traditional psychopathologic explanation, BDSM (bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadomasochism) could be understood as a potential leisure activity. Voices of the Quilt musical needs funding
By Race Bannon
This project is important to me. The Quilt is a vital part of our history and served as a mechanism of solace during my own grieving when my first partner died of AIDS. This project needs money to move forward and I hope many of my friends donate. Donations of any amount, small or large, will help. Your donations are tax-deductible in the U.S. Two good friends, Jörg Fockele and Adam Ouderkirk, are part of this project's core production team and they uphold the highest standards and are men of impeccable integrity. Voices of the Quilt, endorsed by AIDS Memorial Quilt co-founder Cleve Jones and by the NAMES Project, is the story of a community, ravaged by the HIV/AIDS crisis, that rose up and took unprecedented action in the fight for human rights, in part through the creation of what became the AIDS Memorial Quilt - nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, and estimated at 54 tons, the world's largest piece of folk art. The musical is a moving requiem to the fallen, a call to fight against a ravaging pandemic, and, above all, a celebration of life and the strength of community. Uplifting, joyous, and full of spirit, you will stomp your feet and sing out loud. Demos of song selections, performed by the composer, can be listened to on the donation page.

How you can include your information on Dave Rhodes' Hump Day

If you come up with a date and basic information on a new event, please send us the date and a short detail or two. This is designed for the web site and less so for print, so there is no 45 days-in-advance deadline. If your event is happening on November 15, make sure I have it by Monday afternoon, November 6.

Things to send:
1. Short article of about 75 words. So what if you are a few over. Just don't turn it into a Russian novel.

2. Photo or two. Landscape preferred. Must be a jpg. Taken with cellphone is fine. Please supply photo credit.

3. Link to a working site. Web site is preferential, Facebook still works.

4. Five "W's" - Who, what, when, why and where. All are important.

5. Please be concise. In news, verbosity is not a virtue; it is an editor's nightmare.

Style sheet stuff
When listing titleholders we use the title followed by the person's name - International Mr. Leather 1993 Henri ten Have, not Henri ten Have. One would say President Obama, not Obama, President. Less punctuation makes an easier read.

We're getting more photos - join the club. Send yours to us. If a news item comes in which we feel should also be a larger article we will contact you about it. Send to me at Photos need to be jpg format.

Please share us on social media
