After a ten-year drought, the current Northeast Master/slave titleholders, Mister Blue and Bluefrost, have brought the International Master/slave title back to our region by emerging the winners among four other titleholders from the sister regions. Mr. Blue and Bluefrost conducted themselves with grace and dignity winning the hearts of not only of the panel of judges, but the attendees at South Plains Leather Fest. They are just the second African American couple to win the International title following the footsteps of Master Obsidian and slave Namaste, who hold the title for 2010. They are also the third International titleholders that have come from the Northeast Region following Sir Stephen and slave Catherine (2005) and Master Larry and slave barb (2007). 2018 marks MsC’s 15th Anniversary. VT-TLJ: Is your contestant run sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization?

DW: My sponsor is Blackout Leather Productions, Inc. They formed in 1997 as the producers of the revitalized Oregon State Leather titles and co-organizers of Oregon Leather Pride Week. In 2011, they added the Oregon State Bootblack title to their contest. It's their mission to make the gay and lesbian leather, BDSM, and fetish communities more visible while combating the prejudices held against them. As the Oregon State Bootblack 2013, I work with them toward this goal by participating on their board, participating in local and regional events, teaching, and raising funds for local charities.

Favorite Leather item in your arsenal of bar/fetish wear: Oil tan harness boots - They were the first piece of leather I bought for myself. I’ve had them for years now and they are so broken in and comfortable! They’ve been with me on all of my travels, tromped through mud, sprinkles and glitter, and kept me grounded when I’ve felt shaky.

Is your IMsBB run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization? If so Please tell me about your Sponsor:

I am fortunate enough to be sponsored by Bluegrass Leather Pride, Great Lakes Leather Alliance and Mr. Friendly, Team Louisville.

Colorado Bootblack 2016

Proud to be a part of MAsT Metro Denver and the Boulder Munch.

My favorite leather would be my Dr Marten boots. They are my foundation and keep me grounded in leather.

Is your run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization?

I am proud to be sponsored this year by three amazing sponsors. The Leather Colorado Foundation sponsors and facilitates the Colorado Bootblack, Colorado Ms. Leather, Colorado Mr. Leather, Colorado Miss. Leather, and Colorado Mr. Rubber contests. (coloradoleather.org) The Denver Wrangler helps to raise funds for various organizations in the community with their weekly beer busts, and offers their facilities for meetings and other gatherings as they can. (denverwrangler.com) Finally, CJ’s leather has for years sponsored our local community with their fantastic leather products and custom works. Each patch and custom creation or repair is a true work of art. (cjsleather.com)

Tell me about your favorite charity.

The Colorado Center for Alternative Lifestyles is my favorite charity. Although they have only been around since September of 2015 their dedication to our community becomes more and more evident as they constantly seek out new ways of fulfilling their mission of creating a safe space in our community for adults who engage in alternative lifestyles. The communities they strive to serve are those of the LGBTQ+, Non-Monogamy, and Kink, believing that it is up to consenting adults to decide who and how they love. They serve these communities through education on various related topics and are constantly seeking to expand and improve their service. They have expanded their community outreach by teaching classes on mental health first aid and hope to have a crisis hotline and conflict mediation programs for the people of Colorado in the future. (coloradocal.com)

Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.

Community service is so important for any civilization, and really is the mark of humanity. It reminds us that we are all human and all connected and reinforces those connections. Within the leather community it becomes so much more important for each of us to step up where we can. It’s our legacy, it’s where we’re from and it’s where we’re going. It is the foundation of everything we do. So many of our leaders and legends have given so much to see that we continue to progress, and I believe it is up to each of us to continue that. Whether it is helping to raise funds or by organizing ways we can get together in fellowship, the leather community is based on service to that community. It is built by those who are willing to be of service to our community. We pay no taxes to a leather monarch, we have no elected officials making sure there is funding for the things important to us, what we have at the end of the day is each other.

What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?

For me identifying as a bootblack is a core part of who I am. It is how I found my way home. I enjoy caring for leather, and that makes me a leather care specialist. I work on leather as people are wearing it, and that makes me a shoe shiner. I build relationships with those who enter my chair and with the leather. I do what I can to be a recorder and preserver of leather and leather history, and to be a resource to my community. That to me – makes me a bootblack.

Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.    o    Service is a gift and every contribution counts, from donating a few dollars to a worthy cause, seeing an opportunity to help out at an event, or holding a position on the board of an organization.  Volunteering has helped me maintain greater focus and reach higher goals.  I’m so fortunate to come from a community that values service so favorably and shows gratitude to those that give.

What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?    o    I found my identity as a Leather Woman through developing myself as a Bootblack. Before learning to bootblack, I rarely interacted with others.  I was painfully shy. My Sir insisted that I learn the trade, indicating, “It will be good for you.” As a result, bootblacking has radically changed my life. I began to notice how I could be of use to others and my inward focus reflected outward through volunteering.  Through these acts of service to my Sir and my Community, I found myself.  I am now a confident Leather Woman and accomplished Bootblack in all areas of my life.

Who is your favorite Leather Woman…Why?    o    I could pick any number of Leather Women pioneers who have pursued equality and promoted bootblack visibility as my favorite Leather Woman.  I appreciate all those contributions with my whole heart; however, my favorite Leather Woman is my friend Jesbian.  I look up to her in so many ways.  She gives beautiful service, she is young but accomplished and represents the contributions of the next generation that is so hungry to engage in leadership roles.  Jesbian consistently seeks out littles and critters to make space for individuals that often don’t have a refuge in leather spaces.  She is fun, witty, kind and caring.  She is someone that I love dearly and respect enormously.  She positively impacts the lives of every person she meets in every corner of the world.  She is Leather.

Leroux: How long-term care became an uplifting experience
By Paul Leroux for the Ottawa Citizen
Little did I know that my best days lay, not behind, but ahead of me. I was about to embark on an incredible journey of personal growth and spiritual rebirth – to be, not only lifted, but uplifted....Within moments of my arrival, a resident made me feel that I belonged. She has since become my table mate and my best friend....I have witnessed tender moments between spouses, happy occasions uniting families. My own husband and I have seen our relationship grow deeper and stronger. Paul is the partner of past titleholder Alex Wisniowski. Should LGBT people be allow to teach in schools?
While 6% of the respondents (5% of the women and 8% of the men) admitted they weren't sure how they felt, and 6% (4% of the women and 9% of the men) said they did not think gays and lesbians be allowed to teach, an overwhelming 87% (91% of the women and 83% of the men) believe that homosexual teachers should be allowed to teach in schools. Although federal law protects people from workplace discrimination based on race, national origin, religion, sex, age and disability, the law fails to specifically address sexual orientation. In the recent past, more than 20 states and Washington, DC, have prohibited sexual orientation discrimination in private employment, but LGBT teachers still face discrimination regarding their sexuality in the public sector....The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third party survey company, of over 1,000 American adults age 18 and up, was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices. Photo - Terry LeGrand, Born To Raise Hell, Dies - 1939-2018
by Jack Fritscher

Iconic pioneer filmmaker Terry LeGrand (1939-2018) passed at his Hollywood home on April 18. As Marathon Films, Terry produced the great leather classic film “Born to Raise Hell” (1975) directed by Roger Earl starring their discovery, Val Martin, whom “Drummer” editor Jeanne Barney featured on the cover of “Drummer” issue 3. At the infamous LAPD raid of the “Drummer Slave Auction” on April 11, 1976, the intimate friends Terry, Roger, Jeanne, and Val were among the 42 persons arrested. Terry and Roger were longtime friends not lovers, and Terry was the sole owner of Marathon Films. As a producer, Terry was relentless and remarkable. In anti-gay LA, he managed to shoot “Born” in outdoor spaces and at the old Truck Stop bar out in the San Fernando Valley. He and Roger created more than thirty erotic films, most of them leather, and all of them popular. Judge Strikes Down Sodomy Law in Trinidad and Tobago
By Rashima Kwatra for OutRight Action International
On April 12, Judge Devindra Rampersad of the High Court of Trinidad and Tobago has ruled that Sections 13 and 16 of the Sexual Offenses Act are unconstitutional as applied to adult consensual acts, a motion that stands to decriminalize homosexuality in the country. A final judgement and exactly what happens to these laws will be made in July. A lawsuit to challenge the colonial-era sodomy laws was filed in February 2017 by Jason Jones against the attorney general of Trinidad and Tobago. Jones, an LGBTIQ activist in both his native country of Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom, claimed that these two sections violate his right to privacy and freedom of expression. https://www.outrightinternational.org/content/judge-rules-buggery-law-unconstitutional-trinidad-and-tobago
