Oklahoma Ms. Leather 2016,

Tulsa, OK

Leather and Rhinestones, Kink Weekend OKC.

My favorite item I have is my rhinestone corset.

Is your run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization? Rose Rock girls of Leather- They the producers of Oklahoma Ms. Leather. I have been active in the activities that RRgoL puts on. https://rrgol.org

Tell me about your favorite charity.    My favorite charity is Team Friendly because of all the education they share to help remove the stigma of HIV testing and the stigma related to those living with HIV and/or their loved ones.

Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.    Community service makes me feel like I am doing something for someone or something greater than myself. It's a way for me to keep myself centered.

What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?    My heart is what makes me a Leather Woman. I have a desire to help support women in realizing there is a place for them and to trust in themselves in that place.

Who is your favorite Leather Woman…Why?    Sandy "Mama" Reinhardt- Because she is and has been so supportive and involved with individuals in the community suffering from HIV/AIDS. Everything she does for her community is done out of love and comes from her heart.

What do you feel is the most dangerous mis-information passed through traditional & social media affecting our community today, and how would you combat it should the opportunity arise?    Traditional and social media allow bullying of children, teenagers and anyone "different" with very little consequence. When leaders are allowed to bully, everyone else believes it's ok. According to The Southern Poverty Law Center, 867 hate incidents occurred between the period of November 9th through November 18th 2016. Education and stricter laws is the only way that this can be decreased. I would educate and lobby for stricter punishments.

Survived by her life partner Margaret Begley. Meek had been suffering illness and had suffered several falls over the last few months but details surrounding her death this morning are unknown at this time.

Amy Marie was known to many as Daddy, Bare or Papa or Aunt Bare.  The nickname Bare was short for Bare Images, which was the company that Meek ran that actually held ownership of IMsL during Meeks "IMsL Gen 2".

Amy Marie "Bare" Meek with IMsBB 03 Boi Eddie Shared by a Screen Shot from High Shine by Christina Court of High Moo Productions

Perhaps best known for her IMsL/IMsBB Legacy, her title journey started in 1992 with Ms Nebraska Leather. Then in 1993 she won International Ms Leather. In 1994 she purchased IMsL from the board and ran the contest 1995-2006.  It was under her ownership that the contest grew into the weekend event style we enjoy today. It was also Meek who approached Chuck Renslow, owner of the then co-ed International Bootblack Contest, and convinced him to endorse splitting the contest in two. Creating the International Ms. Bootblack Contest in 1999.

Meek is the first of the IMsL/IMsBB Alumni to pass away. Our hearts go out to each and every reader whose life was made better by this phenomenal woman.

Meek was the first female to judge IML, however, she was so much more than a titleholder. Amy Marie has been described as trailblazer. An out and proud lesbian since the 80’s. She came out in high school amid a climate that was less than ideal or supportive.  She was also an activist. Meek was a member of the 1993 March on Washington as well as a rabid backer for the DSM-IV revisions.

Amy Marie was definitely her own person and lived life on her own terms.  She was an influence to those who sought out how to be masculine women and have pride in one's self and their community, no matter what community one’s path would take them to. An unorthodox sense of humor, Meek gave hugs that tried to heal the world.  Even when she didn’t understand or appreciate a person's view she still loved and encouraged them to follow their heart.

Unapologetic, strong, brave, and troubled, Amy Marie “Bare” Meek was a Leather Icon. Her methods of community involvement made for some legendary battles. But, one thing is for certain, Amy Marie Meek forever changed the leather landscape for all women.

IMsL 2015 Contestant: Val Langmuir

ValIMsL141c300smallName: Val Langmuir
Current Title: none currently. I recently completed my title year as Ms San Francisco Leather 2013
City, State: Millbrae, California

Website (if any): I am on Fetlife, and Facebook. My blog is here!

Regular community events that you produce or participate (limit 3):
I help to put on the Ms San Francisco Leather contest.
I’m on the committee that produces Leather Alley at San Francisco Pride.
As an officer of The Exiles San Francisco, I help produce our monthly kink education programs for women and anyone whose gender self-identity is other than male.

Favorite Leather item in your arsenal of bar/fetish wear: My favorite items of leather in my wardrobe are always my boots for sure. I truly love boots. It’s a little tricky to pick my favorites, because I have a lot of really fabulous boots, but I have to say my utterly badass custom Wescos.

TLJ-VT: Is your run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization? If so Please tell me about your Sponsor (feel free to include a copy of their logo and a url to their website) and your involvement with them in 100 words or less.
IMsL Contestant Val: I am fortunate to have two great organizations sponsoring my title run.
Ms. San Francisco Leather. I had the honor of representing this title in 2013.
Powerhouse This friendly leather bar with a diverse clientele is on the corner of Dore Alley and Folsom Street in San Francisco. During my title year as Ms. San Francisco Leather, I grew to love Powerhouse. I enjoy the wall-to-wall hot leathermen, stellar bootblacking, and varied calendar, including the Kink Salon open mic. And I love Powerhouse’s welcoming atmosphere, and especially the bar’s support of leatherwomen.
My thanks to both my sponsors!

Ms. Philadelphia Leather 2016

Philadelphia, PA

I produce a monthly gear event called Clutch at The Bike Stop

My favorite piece of leather is my harness boots.

Is your run in April sponsored by an Event, bar, club, organization? If so Please tell me about all your Sponsors (feel free to include a copy of their logos and a urls to their websites) and your involvement with them in 100 words or less.   The Bike Stop owns the Mr. and Ms. Philadelphia titles. Their owners and staff are like family to me. Thebikestop.com
Philadelphians MC produce the Philadelphia Leather contest and I am an associate of the club. Philadelphiansmc.org
The Leather Man creates custom pieces for me. Theleatherman.com

Tell me about your favorite charity.    Youth charities have long been my focus, but there’s a new organization that I have been focusing on lately, the LGBTQ Home for Hope, that has really galvanized the community. The only LGBTQ homeless shelter in Philadelphia, it is a 37-bed facility that also aids those in recovery and is funded exclusively from private donations.

Tell me in your own words how you feel about community service.    I feel that community service is an integral part of the leather community, especially as a title holder, and it is enriching to me to be a part of a group that I believe is like-minded. Community service is the most rewarding aspect of being a titleholder.

What makes you a Leather Woman and/or Bootblack?    Leather and kink have been a part of my entire adult life. Forgive me for being trite, but I think that I was born this way. Being able to participate in the community has allowed me to be a teacher, a leader and resource which is truly what's at the heart of being a leather woman.

Who is your favorite Leather Woman…Why?    My favorite Leather Woman (excluding my Philadelphia predecessors, of course) is Christy Lee, Ms. New Jersey Leather 2016. From the moment I met her she has been nothing but welcoming,  kind, and generous and has the biggest heart of anyone I know.  She is currently undergoing treatment for cancer and the overwhelming support she is receiving is reflective of how much she means to so many.

kate-bornstein-keynote-IMSL-2014IMsL Productions is pleased to announce that Kate Bornstein, author, playwright, performance artist, provocateur and gender theorist from New York, will be our 2014 Keynote speaker. She will bring her thoughts, her humor and as always, challenge us to expand our understanding and perceptions. Kate will also serve as one of our judges for the IMsL/IMsBB contest this year.

Many of us discovered Kate with her first book in 1994, Gender Outlaw: On Men, Women, and the Rest of Us. Kate edited Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation in collaboration with S. Bear Bergman published in 2010, which won the 2011 Lambda Literary and Publishing Triangle Awards. Bornstein's autobiography, titled A Queer and Pleasant Danger: A Memoir was released May 2012, and in April 2013, Bornstein released My New Gender Workbook: A Step-by-Step Guide to Achieving World Peace Through Gender Anarchy and Sex Positivity.

One of the best parts of the IMsL/IMsBB weekend is the diversity and power of women who span the spectrum of sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. Kate, as our key note speaker at the April 24-27, 2014 event at the DoubleTree by Hilton in San Jose, CA reflects these principles and this is a rare opportunity to hear Kate speak on the West Coast!

You can read all about Kate at her blog. Register now and be sure to purchase a brunch ticket or sign up for an all-inclusive weekend package so you don't miss this opportunity to see all the ways we are bringing sexy back!

Dave Rhodes By Doctor Larry At Leather Sir 2013I want to congratulate Pat Billie and Sharrin Spector as they take the reins of the International Ms Leather and International Ms Bootblack contest which will be held the last weekend of April in San Jose, CA. I know of Sharrin and her high credentials and I have known Pat Baillie since she held the International Ms Leather 1994 title. She has remained active in the Leather community and has worked well with past producers Amy Marie Meek and Glenda Rider. I'm not sure that anyone more suited and acquainted exits than Pat Baillie.

That is the new, now for what was new until Labor Day Weekend in Dallas, TX. The International Leather Sir, Leatherboy and Community Bootblack contest was under the new producer Jeffrey Payne. Jeffrey is co-owner of the Dallas Eagle with the man who owned the Leather Sir title system and that really helped for a smooth transition.
