South Plains WinnersMaster Dan and slave Melissa were chosen to be International Master and slave 2012 during South Plains Leatherfest and International Master/slave Weekend at the Park Inn Hotel in Dallas, TX the weekend of March 9-11. Master Dan and slave Melissa represented the Southeast Master/slave Region.

The other Master and slave contestant pairs were Master Griffin and slave ann from the Northeast, Daniel and Pink from the Northwest, Sir Charles and slave jacki from the Great Lakes, and Sir Mystic and Marika from the Southwest.

Highlights included workshops and education with two seminar tracks ; one on Master/slave relationships and one on advanced SM techniques. Among the presenters were Master Skip and slave Rick, Master Jim and slave marsha, Liza and slave jody, Lady Hilary, Raven Kaldera and Joshua Tenpenny, Mark Frazier, Hardy Haberman, Phoenix, and Utah Rox.

Emcee Karen “Ultra Domme” Crecelius kept things alive. The newly-added South Plains Cruise was held on Friday night and recalled bar gatherings of the past and featured hot Leather bar music, bootblacks, trick cards, and entertainment by drag queen Aurora Briar, Lillith Grey of the Glory Hole Girls, and drag king Sir Cougar.

The new South Plains Cafe offered lunch on Saturday with a portion of the ticket price supported the travel fund. The Sunday Brunch was highlighted by keynote speaker Phillip Wolf (aka Boymeat), one of the four founders of The Next Generation. Also featured was the presentation of the first, and perhaps last, Vanna White Tiara award to Master Malik.

South Plains offered on-site play parties with 5,000 square feet in the hotel both Friday and Saturday nights, featuring men's, women's, and pansexual spaces. Of course, there was a vendor mart.

In 2012 South Plains had to move from the last weekend in February to the second weekend in March; the same weekend as Discipline Corps, a men's BDSM club in Dallas, Esprit de Corps Weekend. Rather than competing, the organizers of both events found ways to work together so that both events benefited.

The community makes nominations as it has done in the past, but there is a sharp turn from there. The community will vote for the nominee finalists who are determined by which received the most nominations. The old system has selection panels comprised of previous years' award recipients. This move gives the greater community more say in who wins and will generate more interest.

The roll out was done on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media. In the first day there were over 100 forms submitted and most had several nominations in each.
